About the Item

Edie Nadelhaft “Fine Detail III” Oil on canvas, 22 x 48 inches. Offered unframed. Edie Nadelhaft's bold, large-scale, colorful monolithic oil paintings of bodega flowers were born from her early impressions of the gritty visual landscape that greeted her upon moving to New York City in the late 1990s. Her unapologetically hedonistic work embraces the profound sensual and emotional potency of bright color and high graphic drama, drawing inspiration from the paintings of Edouard Manet and Andy Warhol, the larger-than-life billboards that shroud buildings along East Houston Street, and the surreal, dreamlike films of David Lynch. The artist's choice of flower, the Gerber Daisy, reflects the vivid, stimulating, and often overpowering environment of her adopted home. Nadelhaft notes, "When I moved to New York, I found the city visually overwhelming and grim. In flower stands throughout the Lower East Side, these raucous bursts of brilliant color appeared delightful and exciting in the most unlikely of settings. They buoyed my spirits, both before and especially after 9/11, and I painted them with the same sense of exuberance and determination." "I titled this series "Lust 4 Life" as a nod to the enduringly gritty song by Iggy Pop and that other renowned painter of flowers, Vincent Van Gogh. The blooms I portray exude that unmistakable "New York Attitude," composed of equal parts ambition, persistence, and, most of all, resilience—in a word, pluck." flower painting, colorful painting, still life, abstract art, female artist, Gerber daisy, contemporary painting, contemporary oil painting, floral painting, flower painting, daisy painting, bright colors, floral design, abstraction, larger than life, floral landscape, representational painting, petal painting, yellow, orange, purple, petals, flora

Flower Study 3 (9.9.16) - Original Floral Bouquet Abstract Texture Oil Painting
By Sally West
Located in Los Angeles, CA
This original floral painting by Sally West showcases lush impasto blossoms in a textured, abstract bouquet—ideal for collectors seeking expressive contemporary flower art with rich oil paint technique. Using her signature palette knife style, West builds each petal and leaf with thick, dynamic strokes, blending soft pastels with vibrant reds, blues, and greens. The composition feels both spontaneous and refined, offering a joyful and tactile celebration of nature in full bloom. What makes Sally West’s original oil paintings so recognizable is the combination of texture, abstraction, and calming colors. The movement of the paint strokes on canvas is reminiscent of a light breeze or waves. Each painting is completed in one day, with the date present in the title. West's pieces take at least eight weeks to completely dry. Once dry, the thick paint takes on an almost sculptural effect. Overall, West’s color palette is uniquely her own, conveying a very specific feeling of comfort associated with familiarity and softness. This one-of-a-kind 16 inches tall by 20 inches wide artwork is painted with thick, textural oil paint on canvas. It is wired and ready to hang. It is signed by the artist on the front lower right corner as well as the back. The sides of this artwork are painted, and it is ready to hang. Convenient local Los Angeles area delivery. Affordable Continental U.S. and worldwide shipping are available. A certificate of authenticity issued by Artplex Gallery is included. Sally West was born in West Wyalong, Central New South Wales. West grew up on a farm and, as a teenager, moved to Eastern Sydney for school. Throughout her life, she has traveled through and lived in both Europe and South East Asia to gain inspiration for her artwork. Although her international journeys have acted as an influence on her style, the subjects of her paintings are very close to home. The subjects of all of her paintings exist in an infinite timeline but only in the location of Eastern Australia. Since West’s first breakthrough solo exhibition in New York in 2011, her artworks have become highly sought after internationally. She has won and placed as a finalist in numerous worldwide art competitions and juried exhibitions throughout her career. Her artworks are exhibited with influential galleries across Australia and the USA. Artplex Gallery has been representing and exhibiting Sally West's original artworks since 2019.
