Biografía del artista:
Gustavo Cochet (Carlos Pellegrini, Argentina, 6 de mayo de 1894 – Funes, 27 de julio de 1979) fue un destacado pintor, grabador y escritor argentino. Hijo de padre francés y madre santiagueña de ascendencia indígena, vivió en distintas provincias de Argentina y gran parte de su vida artística transcurrió en Europa, especialmente en Barcelona y París.
En su trayectoria, Cochet estudió con maestros como César Caggiano en Argentina y, más tarde, se perfeccionó en técnicas de restauración y grabado en Europa. Allí expuso junto a grandes nombres de la vanguardia y absorbió influencias que lo llevaron a un profundo realismo social y compromiso político. En Barcelona se integró al movimiento anarquista y participó activamente en la vida cultural y política, especialmente durante la Guerra Civil Española; su obra reflejó las angustias, miserias y heroísmos de la guerra, destacando la serie de grabados “Caprichos” inspirada en la tradición de Goya.
Tras esa etapa, Cochet se exilió en Francia y luego regresó a Argentina, donde fue docente y siguió produciendo obra plástica y literaria. Su estilo maduró hacia un naturalismo fuerte y un realismo social, manifestado en retratos de trabajadores, escenas de la vida cotidiana y grabados de intensa expresividad. Cochet dejó un legado artístico que abarca pintura, dibujo, grabado y textos, y su casa-taller en Funes es hoy un museo dedicado a su obra.
