About the Item
A CLOSER LOOK: OBSERVATIONS NOT FAR FROM HOME
I have always addressed the details of physical reality in the subjects I choose in order to convey the spirit and feelings that were first called to mind. Invariably I concentrate on a conceptual idea that grew out of something that caught my eye, such as how nature may insinuate itself with fences and gates to form unpredictable arrangements. In my drawings and paintings of “Little Dancer Aged Fourteen Years Old” by Edgar Degas I saw myself as a painter making paintings of a sculpture made by a great artist and transforming the familiar figure into something new. There are also objects that become subjects – the everyday things we use or collect that represent moments in time.
