Jinny Tomozy
Rainbow Harvest, Oil Painting

2022

About the Item

Artist Comments
Artist Jinny Tomozy presents a realistic still life of vibrant and colorful produce - an intimate look at the gardener's prize. "I can not resist the bounty of a fresh harvest," says Jinny. The saturated hues of the fruits that have been nurtured all summer finally come to reveal themselves. The shine of the plump globes displays a dance of highlights among the gathering.

About the Artist
Artist Jinny Tomozy reveals the most tender aspects of nature through the sculptural forms of flowers. Her strikingly realistic floral watercolors connect us to the familiar emotions we experience in viewing the spectacular or mundane circumstances of this place we call home. "I am captivated by light touching a surface, the nuances of a shadow, interplays of color, and of other complex facets of our visual world," shares Jinny. After twenty-two years as a teacher of foundations in art education and placing her creative aspirations on hold, she now pursues art full-time and spends more of her days painting and creating. Jinny captures tangible feelings of space and time in her studio at Reno Art Works. In this non-profit gallery, a community of eleven artists works in an emerging art district in Reno, Nevada. Her work has been awarded "Best of Show" two years in a row for their local art exhibitions. When she's not painting, she spends her time with her husband and daughter channeling alternative creative outlets through baking, crafting, and sewing. They satisfy their adventurous side through outdoor hiking trails, paddle boarding, and exploring canyons and ditches in the high desert.

Squash and Onions, warm earth tones food realistic still life
By Douglas Newton
Located in Brooklyn, NY
Doug Newton’s hyper-real paintings observe reality, explore translucency, reflections and luminosity, and dazzle the viewer with all the ways light can transform our perceptions. His subject matter concentrates on still lives of food, toys, candy and household objects. In addition to many group shows across the country, Mr. Newton’s show, “HARD CANDY and other confections” represents his fifth solo exhibition. His paintings have been collected in numerous private collections. Mr. Newton resides in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, NY. Dr. Sonia Coman writes in her essay, Doug Newton’s hard candy: the confection of painting Doug Newton’s paintings are about… painting. The hyperrealist technique of trompe l’oeil or “trick the eye” is knowingly playful. It simultaneously calls attention to the illusion of a different material—for example, translucent candy wrappers—and the reality of the layers of paint, masterfully applied to the canvas. In that, Newton’s paintings pay homage to an esteemed series of trompe l’oeil masters, from Inquisition-era Spanish painter Francisco de Zurbarán to Gilded-Age American painter William Michael Harnett...
