"Flowers" 2016
Oil Paint, Canvas, Stretcher Bars

In "Flowers", Lesley Anne Spowart invites the viewer into an almost dreamlike world where botanical forms merge with expressive abstraction. The painting focuses on stylized flowers rendered in rich pinks and soft greens, set against a backdrop of earthy tones and muted textures. The bold brushwork, layered with thick strokes of paint, gives the flowers an organic energy, while the background remains a swirl of warm earth tones, offering a contrast that enhances the vibrancy of the petals.
The placement of the flowers is fluid, with a sense of movement that suggests the wind or the passage of time, while the surrounding foliage seems to float and blur, furthering the sensation of fleeting beauty. The mixture of muted background and vibrant focal points creates a dynamic tension between calmness and energy, bringing to mind the transient nature of flowers in bloom.
About the Artist:

Her art expresses her vision through the utilization of these numerous media: “I have employed numerous processes and mediums…I enjoy mixing things up just to see what happens. Color choice is integral in my presentation; I happen to love color and enjoy experimenting and manipulating possibilities in my printmaking and assemblages.” Lesley has shown her work in galleries on the Monterey Peninsula in solo and group shows. Among these are Gallery Mar, Carmel; American Art Gallery, Carmel; and Marjorie Evans Gallery, Carmel. Her work is found in corporate and private collections both here and abroad.
