About the Item
This appealing original oil on canvas painting is by British artist Paul Earee. Painted in a Post Cubist manner circa 1930, this floral still life depicts a vase of flowers on a table in bold blocks of colour. A really vibrant painting in superb tones.
Signed lower right.
Provenance. Estate of the artist.
Condition. Oil on canvas. Image size 24 inches by 20 inches and in excellent condition.
Housed in a gallery frame with complementary tones, 31 inches by 27 inches approx framed.
As Frederick Percy Eary, he was born at Sudbury, Suffolk on 16 July 1888, son of Albert Henry Eary (1862-1941), mat weaver, and his wife Hannah (1860-1939). Known as Paul Earee, he was an artist who was professionally trained as an ecclesiastical architect, art teacher and illustrator, using his spare time in painting, etchings and drawing with strong regional content. As an architect he designed many buildings and interiors in Sudbury including the pulpit of St Gregory's church, a petrol store for Dixon, Scott (1913), two houses in Gainsborough Road for C. E. Dennington (1913), Sudbury Union Hospital additions (1914) and the re-seating of Gainsborough Theatre (1914). In 1920 he was a founder of the Sudbury Dramatic Society and a member of Ipswich Art Club 1938-1945. Earee was a friend of artists Rowland Suddaby (1912-1972) and John Rimmer (1888-1968) and he collaborated with H. A. F. Haslewood to paint scenery for the local production of 'Brer Rabbit and Mr. Fox' at the Victoria Hall, Sudbury in 1921. There was a retrospective exhibition 'Landscapes and Dreams' at The Quay Theatre in 1983 and at Chappel Galleries, Essex in 1996. He married at Sudbury in 1913, Ivy Florence Elliston (1890-1988). As Frederick Percy Earee, he died at Sudbury in 1968, aged 79.

This superb French Victorian portrait oil painting is by noted French society painter Jules-Elie Delaunay. Painted in 1883 it is a three-quarter length profile portrait of the Marquesa de Escombreras. Her full name was Trinidad Maria Piedad Fulgenico de Aguirre. She was born in 1824 in Cartagena, Spain, the seventh and last child of Jose de Aguirre, a retired naval officer. On October 22nd 1843 she married Frenchman Hilarion Roux (1819-1898) who was a banker from Marseille who settled in Cartegena in January 1843. After her marriage she was known as Trinidad Roux. Hilarion Roux had arrived in Cartagena first to trade silver. He quickly became one of the main lead industrialists in Catagena then in the Mediterranean area. The couple later lived in France again, in Marseille and later in Paris, where Trinidad died in 1905 aged 81. Interestingly there is no similar portrait of her husband.
