About the Item

This superb British still life oil painting is attributed to circle of William Nicholson. Painted circa 1920 it is a really lush and vibrant composition of white tulips in a blue jug on a table beside fruit and an ornate glass. There is a wonderful fluidity to it as the tulips arch over the fruit forming a circle. The painting is rich with heavy impasto and is an absolute delight. An excellent example of a 1920's still life oil painting housed in a lovely Bourlet frame. Provenance: London estate. Condition. Oil on canvas, 20 inches by 16 inches and in good condition. Frame. Housed in a Bourlet frame, 28 inches by 24 inches and in good condition. Sir William Newzam Prior Nicholson (5 February 1872 – 16 May 1949) was a British painter of still-life, landscape and portraits. He also worked as a printmaker in techniques including woodcut, wood-engraving and lithography, as an illustrator, as an author of children's books and as a designer for the theatre.

The Tulips, Art Deco Still Life Oil on Canvas of Tulips in a Vase in an Interior
Located in Cotignac, FR
French Art Deco still life of a vase of tulips in an interior by Auguste Mallard. The painting is signed bottom right and presented in a period patinated wood frame. A colourful and strong painting of an interior view, a table with books and as the centre piece a beautiful blue ceramic vase with twisted handles holding a magnificent bouquet of brightly coloured tulips. Mallard has captured the abandon of the blooms in the vase, the way tulips twist and furl raising and lowering their beautiful colourful petals. The colours of the flowers really stand out against the more muted tones of the background, curtain and table. A very elegant and stylish painting. This painting has the feel of some of the still life works from the same period by Tamara de Lempicka who was a contemporary of Mallard painting...
