A fine floral oil painting by Scottish listed artist John M. Aiken. This is a super oil on canvas painting of a floral arrangement entitled "Gay Companions" of yellow, pink, red and white flowers in a blue bowl. The flowers are marigolds, dahlias and cosmos amongst others. This is a fine example of a Inter War Scottish Post Impressionist floral oil with good subject. French Art Deco still life of a vase of tulips in an interior by Auguste Mallard. The painting is signed bottom right and presented in a period patinated wood frame. A colourful and strong painting of an interior view, a table with books and as the centre piece a beautiful blue ceramic vase with twisted handles holding a magnificent bouquet of brightly coloured tulips. Mallard has captured the abandon of the blooms in the vase, the way tulips twist and furl raising and lowering their beautiful colourful petals. The colours of the flowers really stand out against the more muted tones of the background, curtain and table. A very elegant and stylish painting.
