About the Item

This floral still life, "Bowl of Walnuts", by artist Yin Yong Chun is a 16x12 oil painting on canvas featuring a bowl of walnuts in an ornate floral porcelain bowl. Sitting on a cherry wood table, the bowl is set up against a wallpapered background featuring yellow birds on a series of branches. About the artist: Born in Liaoning Province, Northern China, in 1958, Yin Yong Chun has dedicated his life’s passion as a painter to the arts. He honed his craft as a member in the China Artist’s Association from 1979 to 1983. From 1989 to 1990, Yin Yong Chun pursued his love of painting as a postgraduate at Lu Xun Art Institute after completing his undergraduate studies in Oil painting from HaErBin Normal University. Today, Yin Yong Chun is an extraordinary talented, disciplined, and dedicated freelance, professional oil painter in New York City. From his postgraduate studies in 1989 to the present, Yin Yong Chun’s paintings have received critical acclaim and praise. His paintings have been bought and sought after by collectors and artists alike. Demand for his work continues unabated as requests for portrait and compositional works increase every year. Yin Yong Chun separates himself from others using refined yet unique techniques combined with the realism which so influenced by many of the European works from which he studies intensely. Using classical Western techniques combined with Asia compositional influences, he can express moving thoughts through static objects that have inherently eternal, aesthetic emotions. His paintings strive to be true to nature. As Yin Yong Chun attests, nature is the “genuine article”. During the 1980s Chun participated in local exhibitions. In the following decade he was included in several prestigious shows. He had solo exhibitions at the World Trade Center in Beijing in 1993, 1994, and 1996, and was included in the prestigious Beijing International Expositions in 1995, 1996, and 1997. Chun displayed his work in the United States for the first time in 1999, when he had one-artist show at the World Fine Art Gallery in New York. In 2001, a joint show of his art was held at the Gallery of Graphic Arts, New York, and a solo exhibition was held at the National Arts Club, New York. In 2002, Chun participated in a group exhibition at Galerie du Monde in Hong Kong. Yin Yong Chun’s works may be found in many important collections in the United States, Canada, Singapore, Taiwan and Europe.

Sean Farrell, "Morning Glory", 16x12 Pear Grapes Floral Still Life Oil Painting
Located in Saratoga Springs, NY
"Morning Glory", is a 16x12 oil painting on board by artist Sean Farrell. Featured are two pears on a pedestal mixed with freshly bloomed morning glories. Dramatic light combined with a dark background make this piece a bold and blooming composition. The rich blue of the flowers contrast nicely with the subtle tones of red found in the grapes. About the artist: “As I paint at my easel each day in the studio, I approach creating art with the idea of continually developing my artistic understanding and enhancing my personal expression,” writes Sean Farrell of his philosophy of life as an artist. Farrell, who grew up in a small town where there were few opportunities for formal art education, began drawing on his own at a young age and through intense study of the great artists he found in library books began to nurture his innate talent. He writes of his younger years, “Looking at great paintings always excited me and by visiting museums [and] studying numerous art books…I gradually began to increase my artistic understanding,” which led Farrell to teach himself to paint with oils in the late 1980’s and then eventually to attend a painting workshop in New Mexico in the early 1990’s where he met numerous professional artists, who inspired him to a full-time artistic career. Internationally, the prestigious Florence Biennale invited the artist to participate and exhibit work in Florence, Italy. NYARTS Magazine covered the exhibition and in their published review gave the following praise to the works of Sean Farrell… “Works deserving special attention was Sean Farrell’s exquisitely painted flower and fruit arrangements. Eye-catching with his use of dramatically bold colors mixed with delicate detail in a very modern old-master style.” Choosing to travel extensively throughout Italy and also to other regions of Europe over attending art school, the artist has studied and learned from the great master works in the history of art. His paintings reveal his affection for the 17th century Italian and Dutch painters while still remaining truly unique. Mr. Farrell’s works are distinctive for their elegant and graceful compositions, his rich jewel like color, and an elevated sensitivity to the beautiful nuances of light. His works reveal a master’s touch and a quiet ease. Sean Farrell is internationally recognized and a highly collected artist. He is known for his vivid and luminous oil paintings...

Still life with a Chinese bowl by Jean Grimal
By Jean Grimal
Located in Gent, VOV
Jean Grimal is a true 20th century discovery. This breathtaking piece is a gorgeous example of his mastery as an artist. He beautifully creates chiaroscuro in this painting. The way the light touches the edges of the Chinese bowl and the grapes is an example of his skill in representing light. Jean Grimal (1942-1998) was born in the town of Tulle, France in 1942. Jean’s family moved to Paris when he was 8 years of age. After receiving a classical French education with studies in Latin and Greek, Jean Grimal entered the University to receive his Baccalaureate. He then attended Claude Barnard School for three years, when he received his Art Degree.  Upon completion Grimal taught art for seven years.  As Grimal’s own interest in formal painting and art began to possess him, the artist’s destiny changed.  In 1967 Jean Grimal stepped aside from teaching and pursued a career in professional painting and working as an illustrator in advertising.  As an advertising illustrator, Grimal worked with Lise Goldfard for more than 25 years at Studio 44 where they collaborated with major and important accounts, such as: Air France, Christofle, Peugeot, Lacoste, to name a few. At the same time he began presenting his formal paintings to galleries in Paris and Cannes, France and in London and Windsor, England.  Much to his surprise, Grimal found that his paintings were sought after by major art galleries and collectors throughout Europe.  After a number of years of being an important and successful art illustrator for these major accounts, he found himself having to choose between the two.  Fortunately for collectors, he chose to dedicate his life to the classical style of painting.  Jean looked at the simplest things in life through a microscope, where he could take the simplest object and depict the age of the fruit or the leaf. Jean Grimal received great pleasure from his work and painted for over thirty years.  As his style matured and became ever more perfect Jean Grimal truly reached the pinnacle of his career.  The artist’s methods were particularly distinguished when measured against his peers.  Grimal’s painting skill was distinctive and exceptional. Jean Grimal was known for his realistic trompe l’oeil and still life paintings.  The artist would carefully arrange the objects to form a satisfying composition.  By painting every shadow, highlight, and reflection within each composition Grimal brought mundane subjects to life.  His tight rendering combined with his attention to light and detail allowed him to blur the lines between illusion and reality, truly making his works one of a kind.  Grimal’s trompe l’oeil paintings consist of intricate compositions of cards, envelopes, photographs, paper of different materials and weights, backs of canvases, images of other artists’ works, kitchen utensils, pistols, and more.  Grimal had a talent for mastering these illusions that deceive the eye in his trompe l’oeil paintings.    No matter what genre Grimal was painting, tight, unperceivable brushwork characterizes his work.  The artist painted every crease and crinkle, every shadow and highlight, every detail.  By doing so, he was able to capture each individual surface texture of the objects in his paintings.  Grimal was also fabulous at depicting light in his paintings- often contrasting strong lights with strong darks, creating chiaroscuro modeling.  His still life paintings are reminiscent of Dutch seventeenth century...
