About the Item

Thomas Bossard was born in 1971 in Poitiers, France, to a large and creative family. His mother fostered his interest in art since an early age, bringing Thomas to various museums where he discovered, most memorably, the works of Fernand Léger. Drawing became his way of communicating with the world and teachers, recognizing his talent, encouraged him to enroll at a university to study Fine Arts. Upon graduation, Bossard did not set out to be an artist but instead plunged himself into various creative fields: he had worked in publicity, illustration, production of porcelain, and the animation and film, until finding his home at Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse where he became a scenographer. As Bossard explains, the most important goal for him was always to exercise his imagination at every occupation he held. Thomas Bossard remembers his more than a decade-long tenure at Théâtre du Capitole fondly: the opera house became a place of encounter of wonderful individuals, passionate about their work, who were later transformed into characters of his paintings: singers, stage directors, choreographers, and actors. An easy-going and convivial person, Bossard did not have difficulties forming creative partnerships. Nonetheless, when his urge to create independently took over, he left the theater to explore and, perhaps, relive the world of performance through the prism of his own eyes and wit. A very special place in his work is reserved for two seemingly different fields of dance and culinary art: the former speaks of memories of seeing his own daughter transform from a clumsy child into a gracious ballet dancer, the latter is a testament to his decades-long friendship with a chef and restaurant owner in sunny Toulouse. Regardless of the subject matter, Bossard injects his works with humor and, as he hopes, optimism. Exhibits Paris, Toulouse, and throughout France.UK, London, NEC Birmingham, Cambridge, Edinburgh.

Echo - Monochromatic Scene, Ladder and Doors in Muted Gray, Original Oil, Framed
By John Seubert
Located in Chicago, IL
A ladder and several doors seemingly float in air while a full moon illuminates this surreal scene. "Echo" is painted in muted shades of grey bringing a melancholy to the overall aesthetic. The original oil painting is framed in a repurposed frame that the artist has distressed and painted. It measures 24h x 30w inches. John Seubert Echo, 2023 oil on canvas 16h x 20w in 40.64h x 50.80w cm JSE077 John Seubert b. 1958, Chicago, IL In the early Nineties, John Seubert was living in a former hotel in a high-rise building on St. James Place in Chicago. The apartment was tiny, as hotel rooms tend to be, and clad with paper-thin walls allowing sound to pass from one apartment to the other. At the time, John’s artwork consisted of pounding copper sheets into tables which was a noisy endeavor to say the least. Following several noise complaints from the neighbors, John had a dream that he was living in a ramshackle house but with plenty of room to work and no attached neighbors. The following day after lunching at the McDonalds in Lincoln Park, John wandered the neighborhood a came upon a shabby, falling-down old Victorian house. He located the real estate agent, put in an offer, and weeks later was pushing a shopping cart full of his belongings to his new home. This 144-year-old Painted Lady provided a blank canvas for this inimitable artist. For many years the house remained so empty that John was able to ride his Japanese fold up bike throughout the 1st floor. “Some people want to have sex...
