About the Item
'Leaving Harbour' is part of the Sun Pier series of paintings and based on the pier that was located outside my studio in Medway, Kent. From outside sketches, observations and experiences at the time of the river Medway, I produced the painting as part of memory, experience and nostalgia. The repeat motif of the boat hull represents the hull shape of my vintage houseboat. This is one of a series of pictures that Jon recently painted in Venice. This is an abstracted view of one of the historic basins. “Excited by the colour of the buildings I set out to create an abstracted sense of the place and the movement within”. Whilst this reflects a reaction it is not, like others in this series, a representation, rather an evocation.
