The Foreigner (1978):
Director Amos Poe's "The Foreigner'" is inextricably linked with the birth of American punk, the No Wave movement, and the downtown New York art scene. The Foreigner, jump-started the No Wave genre through its celebration of avant-garde style, and 60's French New Wave cinema. This film is a testament to the "punk" sensibility as manifested at CBGB during this time; the streets and lofts of SoHo and the Lower East Side art scene. The film follows European secret agent Max Menace arrives in New York City, waiting for his contact to tell him his assignment. He becomes entangled with an assortment of odd characters and situations, but never learns why he's there.
Unmade Beds (1976):
Directed by Amos Poe, "Unmade Beds" is a seminal work which has been documented in virtually every publication pertaining to the history of the late 70's New York Downtown Art scene. It was an early New York New Wave/No Wave film directed by Amos Poe, with Debbie Harry and Robert Gordon. The story follows Rico who is a cool photographer who pretends he’s a big-shot Hollywood director. He imagines New York is Paris. His inner world of mission, fantasy and obsessions are magnified when he falls in love with the adorable Blondie, played by Debbie Harry. America’s answer to France’s Jean Luc Godard, this film parallels the French movie Breathless.
New York based photographer Fernando Natalici is best known for his iconographic documentation of the downtown Manhattan art scene of the mid/late 70's and early 80's. Natalici’s portfolio includes sought after images of a young Patti Smith, Blondie, Talking Heads, Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat, The Ramones and more. As an Art Director, Fernando has played a key role in creating memorable visuals for historic NY venues such as CBGB's, The Mudd Club, Area and Danceteria.
Fernando’s photo archive and art design were recently featured in two highly regarded New York shows: “Area” at The Hole Gallery NYC (2014) & “Downtown New York Film” at The Museum of The Moving Image (2015).
