About the Item

As seen in Apple TV+ series "Dark Matter" Screaming Mike "This is the only image where Photoshop has been implemented. I had an illustrator friend who, for 35 years, occasionally worked on my images. In the beginning, he used an airbrush to paint on them and eventually moved to Photoshop. I asked Mike to stick his head through a large Portal and pushed smoke through for effect. My illustrator friend took the images and just experimented without any input from me. I like the way we made the 2 Mikes going at each other, so I just kept it. There were other images where I put him into an environment or story, but they didn’t quite work. I make an effort to avoid the dangers of cliché but I like visual risks.' - Jack Perno Archival Pigment Print Paper size: 16 x 25 inches Framed Size:22 x 31.5 inches Edition: 1/10 Artist statement: "I remember when I was a boy taking photos of models with my father's old "Brownie Hawkeye" camera. I would sit at my desk building model planes, boats and monsters like Frankenstein and Dracula. I found it extremely rewarding to thoughtfully position and carefully photograph them. They were my version of a supermodel. When the polaroid film camera was invented, I became fascinated with the virtually instant image process. Years later, I received a BFA in photography from the Kansas City Art Institute, when photography was just beginning to be recognized as a fine art form. After college and a year of assisting photographers, I landed my first freelance job as a magazine photographer, working in the US and Europe. I was shooting fashion models and consistently being published. Along the journey, I never abandoned my first love...polaroid. Polaroid emulsion lifts and multiple imagery nourished my curiosity and soul for decades." Jack Perno's photographs have been published in Town & Country, Vogue, and Italian Vogue.

Syrian Boy by Zack Whitford - Humanity - Contemporary Portrait Photography
By Zack Whitford
Located in Chicago, IL
Syrian Boy Beqaa valley, 2015 Whitford’s emotional image serves as a spiritual twin to the SYRIAN GIRL piece in Humanity. Depicting another child at the Syrian refugee camp in the Beqaa Valley, this photograph argues for social justice and equality through the young boy’s innocent, doleful expression. The wooden barriers that surround him further the impact of the image’s thesis, not only specifying that the boy is separated from the viewer, but also that we are separated from him.
