About the Item

Archival Pigment Print Edition of 25 Print size: 19 H x 6.5 W inches Frame size: 26 H x 13 W inches This piece is a digital reproduction of an original 8 x 10" polaroid that was manipulated by hand. Additional sizes available upon request, inquire within. Artist statement: "I remember when I was a boy taking photos of models with my father's old "Brownie Hawkeye" camera. I would sit at my desk building model planes, boats and monsters like Frankenstein and Dracula. I found it extremely rewarding to thoughtfully position and carefully photograph them. They were my version of a supermodel. When the polaroid film camera was invented, I became fascinated with the virtually instant image process. Years later, I received a BFA in photography from the Kansas City Art Institute, when photography was just beginning to be recognized as a fine art form. After college and a year of assisting photographers, I landed my first freelance job as a magazine photographer, working in the US and Europe. I was shooting fashion models and consistently being published. Along the journey, I never abandoned my first love...polaroid. Polaroid emulsion lifts and multiple imagery nourished my curiosity and soul for decades." Jack Perno's photographs have been published in Town & Country, Vogue, and Italian Vogue. Most recently, his work can been seen on the cover and inside pages of ART + DESIGN MAGAZINE (Winter 2017 issue).

Born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1966, he is now an internationally acclaimed fine art photographer and Europe’s best selling wildlife photographer. Joe Pytka’s 1992 Pepsi Ad with Cindy Crawford is iconic; indeed, it is probably one of the most celebrated commercials of all time. So much so, that there have been many retakes and parodies. As we all know, it featured a 26-year-old Crawford pulling up to the Halfway Café in a red sports car wearing a white tank top and jean shorts. Two young boys stare as the supermodel buys a Pepsi from a vending machine and drinks it down. For some time I had yearned to do my own interpretation of the advert with a still photograph and I secured Cindy’s involvement, who in turn secured Pepsi’s approval (given the implicit tribute, why would Pepsi say “no”?). The Halfway House...
