About the Item
In January 2009 John Kenny went to the Festival of the Desert in Mali. The gathering of Tuareg musicians was, at the time, an annual event held in Essakane – about 100kms into the Sahara from Timbuktu,
This striking Tuareg man was walking through the beautiful white sand dunes with his camels. He was on his way to join groups of Tuareg watching the setting sun from the top of the dunes and to join in preparations for the next days camel racing.
The intensity of the man was at once obvious and has survived in his portrait.
John Kenny’s work is all shot on location in some of the remotest corners of Africa. His images are all taken with natural light and his subjects in their day to day attire.
The C-type prints are mounted with an acrylic face mount giving them a 3-dimensional appearance and a contemporary look.
