About the Item
As a child, Ryan Van Der Hout owned a telescope and was fascinated by the sight of the moon in the night sky. This iconic image of the moon as viewed from earth is re-imagined when Van Der Hout folds the full colour photographic print he created. Folded Moon was inspired by the work of the late American artist, Ellsworth Kelly whose abstract sculptural piece in white painted aluminum was folded in half. Van Der Hout’s print sits between layers of acrylic and mirrored glass. This wall relief is number 3 in an edition of 20. It is available by commission, please allow 3-4 weeks for delivery. Also available in a larger, 40 x 36 inch, for $4000.

His work has been supported by the Ontario Arts Council. Van Der Hout is a graduate of Ryerson's photography program. His work has been published in The Huffington Post, CBC online, and Readers Digest. In 2017, he won the Emerging Photographer Award from the Robert McLaughlin Gallery, for his laser cut pigment print with gold leaf, Before the Storm.

Accomplished print maker Guy Allen (b.1987) grew up surrounded by Norfolk’s natural beauty. The theme of the animal world is central to Guy’s work and inspiration. His limited edition original etchings showcase his brilliant draftsmanship in a contemporary way. Guy graduated from Central Saint Martins School of Art in 2011, but discovered his passion for the traditional etching process while studying at the École Nationale Supérieure Des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 2010. In 2012 Guy trained as an assistant print maker at the highly respected Curwen Studios, Cambridge, under Mary Dalton and Stanley Jones, where he mastered other types of printmaking.
