About the Item
As a child, Ryan Van Der Hout owned a telescope and was fascinated by the sight of the moon in the night sky. This iconic image of the moon as viewed from earth is re-imagined when Van Der Hout folds the full colour photographic print he created. Folded Moon was inspired by the work of the late American artist, Ellsworth Kelly whose abstract sculptural piece in white painted aluminum was folded in half. Van Der Hout’s print sits between layers of acrylic and mirrored glass. This wall relief is number 3 in an edition of 20. It is available by commission, please allow 3-4 weeks for delivery. Also available in a larger, 40 x 36 inch, for $4000.

The photo-based work of Ryan Van Der Hout has been exhibited in the U.K., New York, and in Canada most notably as part of the AGO’s Collector’s series and in a 2018 solo show at the Robert McLaughlin Gallery, Oshawa. His work has been supported by the Ontario Arts Council. Van Der Hout is a graduate of Ryerson's photography program. His work has been published in The Huffington Post, CBC online, and Readers Digest. In 2017, he won the Emerging Photographer Award from the Robert McLaughlin Gallery, for his laser cut pigment print with gold leaf, Before the Storm.
