Cristina Fontsaré has a legacy of using Polaroid instant photography to document her daughters and their friends–a photographic process that fades and shifts and is never stable, beautifully matches the fragility of the child, ever developing and morphing into new incarnations of self. Her series, A Crack in the Mirror, echoes an earlier project, Once Upon A Time In My Life, with photographs that are formal, dream-like, and quiet portraits of a particular age. She so beautifully articulates her thinking here, “I am interested in those moments of transition between one evolutionary stage and another, highlighting the imaginary world of childhood that is invisible to the adult gaze, the beauty and fragility of puberty, the contradictions and lights and shadows of growth, the things we leave behind, the adaptation to change, the new incipient subjectivity and the psychological changes that will come and that will distance you from your closest environment: the family, where everything begins and everything ends.“ (Article written by Aline Smithson)

Cristina Fontsare
Cristina Fontsare was born and raised in Barcelona where she studied Fine Arts and Landscape Architecture. She completed her studies in London and Paris. She is interested in the narrative sense of photography, that frozen moment that allows an ambiguous narrative. That intermediate moment which gives place to the spectator to create his own story, to compose his own mental images, recreating a separate sphere constructed in between a shared reality and an imaginary world.

Long exposure figurative Photography: 'Illuminations No. 53'
By Florence Montmare
Located in New York, NY
'Illuminations started in 2002 when a relationship was slowly falling apart. While trying to save it, we rented a large stylish apartment in Stockholm, and then later one in Arles, France, hoping that a change of scene would have a posi-tive effect. The new spaces made the distance between us more acute, and the inevitable break even more obvious. The ritual of making one photograph each night became crucial to me. I left the camera shutter open for 3 to 8 hours in a darkened bedroom, and as the morning light arrived I interrupted the exposure. It is a private journal, documenting time and memory, where present meets past.'
Born in Vienna to Swedish and Greek parents and raised in Stockholm, Florence Montmare has an MBA in Design Management from Linnaeus University, Sweden and studied at the School of Visual Arts. A graduate of International Center of Photography, New York, she collaborated with artist Sam Samore...
