About the Item

Archival Pigment Print - MOUNTED AND FRAMED 60 x 75 inches – edition of 5 Ask us for custom framing options. CHROMA presents David Burdeny EUROPE series. Limited edition prints, with a certificate of authenticity, signed by the artist and signature label. Acclaimed photographer, David Burdeny has explored a variegated photographic landscape ranging from minimal seascapes, ornate European interiors to abstract aerial images. Be it leaning out from a low flying helicopter, shooting from the deck of an Antarctic bound icebreaker, or wading in hip-waders for an ocean tide to advance, Burdeny faithfully imbeds his own formal and minimalist signature into each image, further expressing a lifelong passion for the built environment and the camera’s interpretation of it. Burdeny’s photography takes the viewer on a visual journey through some of the world’s most iconic cities while his vast aerial photographs serve to build bridges of empathy to sensitive landscapes and ecosystems of our world in a way that is both beautiful and thought provoking. “These works present my abiding interest in the thresholds that divide and connect the sea to land. I am fascinated with the quality of light and the spatial immensity of the ocean. I have enormous reverence for feeling so small in the presence of something so vast, where perspective, scale, time, and distance momentarily become intangible. Photographing as a process of clarifying this quality, I work towards creating formalized, liminal spaces. The glory lies not in this act of clarification or reduction, but in the experience of what is left – sublime experience located in ordinary space: a slowly moving sky, the sun moving across a boulder surface or seafoam swirling around a pylon. Exposed under the light of dusk and dawn, the shutter is held open for several minutes, recording the ocean and sky as it continuously repositions itself on the negative, a process both dependent upon and vulnerable to chance. The resultant image is an accretion of past and present. Each moment is layered over the moment immediately preceding it – a single image that embodies the weight of cumulative time and unending metamorphosis. “

Sarakiniko No.3 Milos (Limited Edition of 25) - The Sea Photography
By Christopher Petsos
Located in New York, NY
This image captured in 2017 by New York photographer Christopher Petsos features the Sarakiniko beach in Milos, Greece, one of the most beautiful “moonscape” beaches in the world. This beach is known for being the most photographed attraction in the Aegean Sea. Due to its picturesque beauty, it's become an Instagram darling. Christopher Petsos is a New York City based photographer and artist. He is known for capturing Light, pattern, texture, color and motion across the urban realm. Petsos believes that we see things through a filter of the self, a camera records the physical details of a scene, but our human eyes and sub-conscious self, are the interpreters that complete our view of reality. In his own words: “Throughout the process, I stay faithful to the underlying truth of the scene. My work inhabits the space between literal depiction and my emotional Impression of the moment. The result is hyper-reality: facts imbued with feeling.” In this image, Christopher Petsos stands true to his words and brilliantly captures the light, pattern, texture, color and motion across the urban realm and painted it in his own colors to give the viewer a new perspective.
