About the Item

Boeing B17G, close-up of the front, photographed by Jeffrey Milstein. All prints are limited edition. Available in multiple sizes. High-end framing on request. All prints are done and signed by the artist. The collector receives an additional certificate of authenticity from the gallery. Jeffrey Milstein channels his lifelong passion for aviation into photography that blends precision with artistry. With a background in architecture, graphic design, and professional photography, he brings a trained eye and a steady hand to every image. Through meticulous post-processing, he isolates his subjects from their surroundings, drawing focus to form, color, and symmetry. The result: striking prints that invite viewers to see the world from an elevated perspective—both literally and aesthetically. Jeffrey Milstein, born in the Bronx in 1944, earned a degree in architecture from UC Berkeley in 1968 and practiced as an architect before shifting his focus to photography in 2000. A licensed pilot since the age of 17, Milstein’s deep-rooted fascination with aviation inspired his renowned typology of aircraft captured from below as they descend to land. His work has been widely exhibited, including a solo show at the Ulrich Museum of Art in 2008 and a yearlong solo exhibition at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum in 2012. In 2016, his photographs were featured at the Brandts Museum in Odense, Denmark. In recent years, Milstein has reversed his lens, capturing striking aerial images that depict human-altered landscapes with graphic precision. These award-winning photographs, emblematic of contemporary civilization, have been exhibited in solo shows at Kopeikin Gallery, Bau-Xi Gallery, and Benrubi Gallery between 2017 and 2018. A permanent installation at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, unveiled in 2017, includes a large-scale reproduction of his aerial image of Beverly Hills. Milstein’s aerial photograph of Newark Airport was chosen as the cover image for the catalogue of the international traveling exhibition Civilization: The Way We Live Now. His work has been widely exhibited and collected across the United States and Europe. In recognition of his achievements, Milstein was awarded the Gold Award in the 2024 Graphis Photography competition. JFK in Profile, 1960 - Color Photograph Matted and Framed

Art Shay JFK in Profile, 1960 archival pigment print 14h x 11w in 35.56h x 27.94w cm ASY15013 “Art Shay’s photography shakes you up, sets you down gently, pats you on the head and then kicks you in the ass.” Roger Ebert “[Shay’s work] ranks with some of the greats of the 20th century.” Ellen & Richard Sandor, Renowned photo collectors “I’ve admired Art Shay’s work for almost forty years, and he keeps getting better. He can do anything with a camera, but what he mostly does is capture real moments and transform them into visual poetry. His work continues to be an inspiration to me.” William Friedkin, Director of French Connection “Art Shay is one of our finest photographers. His work over the past fifty years has artfully captured the beauty, humor, and pathos of America.” Studs Terkel “Art Shay is one of the best photojournalists I know. I’ve been a fan of his work since the early 1950s - before the launch of playboy magazine.” Hugh Hefner “Algren, Terkel, Royko, they gave us a voice. Art Shay gave us a face.” Tony Fitzpatrick, Chicago Artist “Art Shay is America’s Cartier-Bresson.” Thomas Dyja, author of The Third Coast “Chicago’s Art Shay in many ways is to American photography what Nelson Algren was to American writing: that rare and absolutely necessary citizen who’s blessed with a cold eye, a clear head, and a warm heart...
