About the Item

Ola KOLEHMAINEN (*1964, Finland) Reliquary with Holy Spirit Dove c.1300, 2019 Archive Ink Jet Print in Artist Frame 63 x 55 cm (24 3/4 x 21 5/8 in.) Edition of 6, plus 2 AP Signed by the artist Ola Kolehmainen is a contemporary Finnish photographer, known for his large-scaled color photographs. Kolehmainen's artistic approach revolves around his notable exploration of light on architecture. Born in 1964 in Helsinki, Finland, he graduated from the University of Industrial Arts in 1999. Later, Ola Kolehmainen joined the Helsinki School of artists and started to develop a photographic process and aesthetic conceptually. Kolehmainen's photographs are willing to be confusingly abstract and minimalist. The extensive use of light is a primordial aspect of his practice and the mastering of it creates impressive atmospheres such as in his series of sacred spaces. His interesting style aims to highlight the architectural details of materials and forms and make the viewer question the way the building is perceived. Ola Kolehmainen pushes both architecture and photography to a new dimension by his conceptual practice that resembles Color Field paintings created by composing multilayered light structures on photographic paper. Today, Ola Kolehmainen lives and works in Berlin, Germany and is one of the most prominent artists of the 'Helsinki School'. His work is exhibited all around Europe such as his exhibitions; 'Ola Kolehmainen', HAM Tennis Palace, Helsinki (2018) and 'Reason and Intuition', Museum Pitzhanger Manor House and Gallery, London (2014). In 2015 he was made an honorary member of the Royal Institute of British Architects RIBA. – Color photography, Photography, Cathedral of Light, Ola Kolehmainen

She has also been a subject for them; as she puts it, “we are professional posers.” Recently, however, she has worked to paint portraits of those whose gaze is more internal—monks and nomads in Tibet, aboriginal people in Taiwan—creating large bodies of portraits that investigate the limits of the genre. She returned, with her daughter, to Hockney’s studio in 2014, not only to sit for him but to paint him once again. Her practice involves the long sittings and intense looking required of traditional portrait-making. Muse X Editions. An (now defunct) LA based innovative publisher of limited-edition prints, Muse X has launched its first group of prints and is just beginning to make itself known to artists, curators, dealers and collectors. Among works just off the press are otherworldly landscapes by Barbara Kasten and Oliver Wasow...
