Pawel Żak tackles traditional still life subjects in his "Still Life" series, including fruits (cherries), flowers (tulips) and even allegories. These themes demonstrate his interest in subjects like those found in the works of the old Dutch Masters, particularly their overabundance of symbolism and details. This genre, which is uncommon in modern photography, also enables the photographer to experiment with a variety of household items.
The photographed objects are removed from their natural surroundings, whether they are a single object (such as a bowl of milk), a pair (such as two pink balloons), a trio (such as oyster shells), or a group (such as pears). We are reminded of the very essence of still life by the created setting, which is completely open to interpretation. Each image serves as a prompt for contemplation.
