Sepia toned gelatin silver print (Edition of 15)

David Halliday has been making and exhibiting photographs since the late 1980s. He first gained attention for his sepia-toned silver prints of elegant, meticulously composed still lifes. His more recent color work, all captured on film with natural light, maintains the same intimate and simple beauty. His subject matter is often quotidian but far from mundane. Throughout his career, Halliday has consistently maintained his commitment to capturing the inherent beauty and character in everyday objects and scenes through his unique artistic vision.
The artist was born in Glen Cove, New York in 1958 and spent his formative years in Ridgefield, Connecticut. It was at the Wooster Community Art Center in Danbury, Connecticut where he was first introduced to the visual arts. He attended Syracuse University and later pursued further studies with Arnold Newman, Jane Tuckerman, and Robert Hennessey. Their influences and encouragement inspired in Halliday a lifelong passion for photography.
Halliday’s work has been included in numerous solo and group exhibitions. Museum exhibitions include the San Antonia Museum of Art, the Contemporary Arts Center in New Orleans, Jacksonville Museum of Contemporary Art, Center for the Arts Virginia Tech, the Ogden Museum of Southern Art. His work has been represented in galleries throughout the US. Halliday’s photographs are included in numerous public and private collections including the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and the New Britain Museum of Art.
He currently lives and works in Schodack Landing, New York, in the northern Hudson Valley.

David Halliday
David Halliday's photographs are about beauty, pure and simple. His primary subjects are carefully composed still lifes, portraits and landscapes which he shoots in black and white film with only natural light. He is a purist behind the lens, rarely manipulating his negatives in any way and a master in the darkroom. His work has an ethereal quality that's translated not only through the subject, but also by the warm colors and sepia tones he uses in his printing.

Jim French first began drawing and then photographing male erotica in the 1960s. Originally a successful fashion illustrator, French and an old army buddy partnered to open a mail order company in New York City they called Luger. French contributed homoerotic drawings of hyper-masculine types such as soldiers, cowboys, and bikers. Eventually he bought out his business partner, and by 1967, under the pseudonym Rip Colt, he founded the now infamous Colt Studio...
