VOLLIPSIS series by Alina Karo
The title of the show, Vollipsis, bears a hint of mystery. By merging the meanings of two words - Volute + Ellipsis – the authors not only defined the symbolism of their col- laboration, adding the cinematographic references to each other’s’ roles, but also pre- sented the story made of 25 photographs in a spiral formation visible for both of them.
The conscious elusiveness and inexhaustibility of artists’ intention does not deconstruct the content of the story and at the same time highlights the cinematic side of the project. Vollipsis is a film with different plots, where in the end the paths of all main characters inter- cross and they all appear to be connected by the same story, which ties them into solid cause- and-effect relationship. Each photograph, as well as each episode has a title and a description.
In her first solo project the photographer Alina Karo in collaboration with her muse, a stylist and a model Danila Polyakov, investigates the matters of her concern in the nowadays society and the world around us. Among them are contemporary modes of social behavior in different strata of the society, the relations between a man and a woman, unity and opposites struggle, the environment contamination, the romantic memories of childhood and the irony about the new trendy practices of spirituality, which walk hand in hand with the actual oblivion, exhibitionism and the overall people’s striving towards glamour, luxury and the cult of the beautiful body.
The only non-random element of the story, told by Karo through her photographs, appears to be a usual plastic bag – the shell of the total consumerism, which is the integral part of our “universe”.

Alina Karo
Fine art photography by Alina Karo feels like a direct protest to the world of modern beauty. Her photos hold same elegant poses of the fashion photography, but with the grotesque, with the anti-sexual & stunning disregard for what is expected.
Alina Karo started her professional career as a photographer in 2004. She was documenting different gigs and worked as a photographer’s assistant to consolidate her skills and maximize her potential. Her eyes wide open and full of wonder, she is able to catch the most astute angles of beauty and amazement, while as of late highlighting the state of affairs and denudation of the environment.
In 2006, she was hired as a photographer for model agencies (Paris, London, New-York and Moscow).
A year later, she had the chance to work with worldwide renowned fashion magazines like Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Interview, L’Officiel, SNC, Numero, Collezioni, Elle, Marie-Claire and many others.
In 2008, she was inspired by her meeting with the legendary photographer Peter Lindberg, whose portrait she made for SNC magazine, she decided to travel to Paris and New York where she continued her fashion photography experience.
Throughout the last couple of years, it dawned on her she should dedicate a lot of time to travelling, to open her creativity further. It is with gratitude to these encounters and meetings that she is now focusing on shooting her personal projects, turning her attention from the commercial fashion industry towards the artistic independent work.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Internationally recognized photographer, Giuliano Bekor, holds a portfolio that includes work from the realms of fashion, beauty, celebrity, advertising, and fine art.
Giuliano’s photography has been featured in top publications around the globe, and his client list includes an endless file of beauty industry leaders, advertising agencies, celebrities, producers, and artists.
With 30 years in the industry, Giuliano has perfected his craft to an exceptional level of expertise. Composed of light, color, space and form, Giuliano brings ideas conceptualized in his own imagination into reality throughout his work.
Currently living between New York and Los Angeles, Giuliano is often on the move traveling for work and inspiration. Always the restless visionary, he ceases to continually express his fresh and nuanced style.
For Giuliano Bekor, a photograph is an image that comes into being consciously, composed of light, color, space and form. Like a painter, he sketches, refining ideas through pen and pencil well before the shutter clicks. A camera is strictly a means to an end, a way of making a palpable visual record of an idea that gestates in his mind, gains shape by his hand, and resolves through his eye as it peers through the lens.
His subject is the human body, almost always nude. These images delve into the splendor of the body - how it can express the inner meaning of who we are. Limbs, torsos, muscles and bones are exposed as though carved out of a supple, glowing stone that flexes and twists. Many of these photographs feature subjects posed with the eyes obscured, the face covered.
If we look closely, Bekor says, we can see that the body is as much a window into the soul as the eyes. This is a gallery of the soul etched into the forms we assume in the physical world. Through exaggerated contrast between light and dark, smooth and textured, vaporous and tactile, Giuliano deliberately filters the extraneous.
The camera captures the image, but for Bekor each exposure is a transformation - of himself, his subjects, and us. He is digging into uneasy turf, fraught with tension: masculine/feminine, heroic/cowardly, shameless/shameful, eternal/fleeting. The intensity of detail, the fiercely exquisite perfection of the bodies themselves, the unflinching, scrupulous engagement of the lens, negates all pretense of politeness. Confronted, we are summoned to look. So we must. And we do. And we experience the beautiful human forms we inhabit and the silent, eloquent language they speak.
