About the Item
Ana Paes (A Guarda, 1982) makes us aware of the interstices that exist between one plane and another, shows us that this apparent continuity of the image-movement is, in fact, only apparent, and invites us to look into the nooks and crannies. . In her series of “Rayograms of water and plants” she transfers the photosensitive paper in the middle of the night to the bank of the Manzanares River (Madrid). She submerges him in the water and exposes him to a quick instant of light. A flash is enough to register on the paper what during that fraction of a second is trapped between the light and the paper: the flow of water, a reverberation, swimming leaves... but the registration of other lights such as stars, the moon or nearby streetlights. Ana's works are unique pieces, the artist opens the image, stopping it, but not completely. She does not offer it as something static and fixed, but as an image that is halfway between expanded time and a precise instant. An image that is pure cinema, that is pure time.
