Series "Grey matters"
A rock formation in a Mono Lake in California USA.
In 2014 Tom started a four-years-project, photographing all over the world: The trilogy »Awakening«. It consists of three series: »Grey Matter(s)« (2014–2015), »Into the Light« (2015–2017) and »The Light Within« (2018). At first shady and mysterious, then cool and clear, finally contemplative and inviting – each of the three series emits an individual atmosphere.
With his trilogy Tom created an homage to our Earth. »Awakening« distinguishes itself by being photographed in colour, even though colour is mostly excluded from his work. Tom like to call it "The Absence of the Juggler Colour". Within the oeuvre »Awakening« he also tries to establish a connection between our planet and the evolvement of the human soul. While part one and two represent aspiration for enlightenment, he sees an end to this pursuit in the third series, when he movs the source of knowledge within the protagonists.
Tom Jacobi was born in 1956 in Germany. After studying law he started his photographical career in 1976 in the genre of portrait photography, in which his main focus laid on taking portraits of leading German politicians. In the following year he built his starting point for his long-lasting career at the German magazine ”Stern”. for which Tom Jacobi was employed from his first time at the magazine until 1986 as photographer. In the following 14 years Tom Jacobi worked as a freelance photographer for magazines like ”New York Times Magazine”, and ”The New Yorker”, before he returned to the ”Stern” as art director

South Tufa Swirls
By Vahé Peroomian
Located in La Canada Flintridge, CA
Title: South Tufa Swirls
Location: Mono Lake, California
Edition: 2 of 5, signed by artist
Description: The shoreline of the lake is never the same... The wind-whipped water forms swirling pools, deposits layers of fluffy froth on the shoreline, and can’t help but reflect the light show of sunset in its mirrored surface, whether the clouds that have gathered participate or not.
Vahé Peroomian is a professor of physics and astronomy at the University of Southern California (USC). He received a Ph.D. in Physics from UCLA in March, 1994, specializing in numerical simulations of space plasmas, and carried out research in that field for 25 years before transitioning into a full- time teaching and innovative pedagogy position at USC.
Vahé’s love of photography as a child and young adult blossomed into a passion more than twenty years ago. Since then, he has taken every opportunity to pursue his fascination with photography and the beauty of the Gaian landscape. He is a self-trained photographer, and prefers a hands-on approach and independent experimentation with photographic styles and techniques. He has found that the same off-the-wall approach that works in solving physics problems helps him see landscapes in a new light as well. The self-similar shapes in landscapes, and the play between...

Fly Geyser, Black Rock Desert, limited edition photograph, signed, archival ink
The terrain of the Black Rock Desert, Nevada is an area that I have always wanted to explore. In November of this year, I finally got the chance. The area is sparsely inhabited with the largest town being Gerlach - population of 100.
Humans have inhabited the Black Rock Desert since approximately 11,000 BC.. The large black rock formation was used as a landmark by early settlers and emigrants that initially crossed and settled in the area. At its base is a large hot spring and grassy meadow, which was an important place for those crossing the desert headed for California and Oregon. In the mid-1800's John Fremont...
