Radishes (Contemporary Still Life Study in Light Box with Diffused Light)
Located in Hudson, NY
11.25 x 11.25 inches unframed Archival pigment print edition of 12 Some of David Halliday's most engaging works are those from his Box Series in which he merges traditional ideas about light and composition with contemporary experiments. In this series an empty cookie tin becomes a tiny studio for food objects. Halliday carefully styles his photographic subjects inside and, allowing only natural light to seep in through a circular window. The results feel less like still lifes and more like intimate portraits of human sustenance. In these photographs, the fleshy curves of a fig, the slick bodies of sardines, even the homeliest porcini mushrooms possess a degree of nobility, providing a refreshing contrast to the compulsive relationship we so often have with food, reminding us to slow down and savor with gratitude. In this particular image, a bunch of radishes with their deep pink skins are are gently brushed with the natural diffused light, echoing techniques associated with a Vermeer painting! About the work: The Past Still Present: A master of light, New Orleans photographer David Halliday produces lush and elegant images that are both classical and modern. Using window...

Clam Shells (Still Life Photograph of Purple & White Shells with Drift Wood)
Located in Hudson, NY
Still life photograph of purple and white clam shells on pale grey and beige background archival pigment print, made in 2007 by David Halliday 10 X 15 inches unframed Edition of 25 In this series, Halliday captures the beauty of 'the ordinary' in still lifes of various objects and vegetation arranged against simple backgrounds. This nautical themed still life of deep purple and white clam shells beside a piece of drift wood is set on a light grey table top against a cream colored wood wall. The subtle color palette extenuates the various textures and gentle shadows cast on the objects. About the artist: American, b. 1958, Glen Cove, NY, United States, based in Schodack Landing, NY, United States Elegant still lifes bathed in natural light, so masterfully composed one could forget that it is, in fact, a photograph – this is how we’ve come to recognize David Halliday’s work. The artist first gained recognition for his sepia toned silver gelatin prints of common place objects and food staples, emphasized by sublime balances of form, texture, and shadow one could liken to classical painting. In more recent years the artist began embracing his subject matter with modern pops of color in surreal arrangements; vegetables and fruits eccentrically coupled with fish nets and cutlery balanced on undefined tabletops, seeming to float in midair. Now the photographer is retracting his lens to encompass the studio itself as his subject. In a self-portrait of sorts, Halliday skillfully combines elements of his craft in a modest interior view. Halliday was one of the first artists Carrie Haddad began representing when she opened the gallery 27 years ago. Since then he has exhibited nationally and in Europe. He now lives and works in Schodack Landing by way of New Orleans and Nantucket. Homage to Wilson A. Bentley #19
Located in New York, NY
Listing includes framing, free shipping and 14-day returns. Yuji Obata Homage to Wilson A. Bentley #4, 2005 - 2006 19 x 13 inch archival pigment print Edition 3 of 10 Signed and editioned on verso Yuji Obata was born in Japan in 1962. He attended the Nihon University College of Art and currently resides in Tokyo. He has won numerous photography prizes in Japan, and his work was first shown outside of Japan in 2010 with Danziger Projects at Pulse Miami. In 2003, Obata was compelled to photograph winter scenes in Japan as he stood in front of Pieter Bruegel's painting "The Hunters in the Snow" in Vienna's Museum of Art History. Upon returning to Japan, he traveled to the country's northernmost island, Hokkaidō, known for its cold and snowy winters. As he worked there photographing ice skaters at a middle school rink and a local speed skating team, his enchantment with images of winter deepened. Traveling around different regions of the island in winter, he began noticing the varied qualities of the snow itself, and finally became fascinated with the unique challenge of photographing snowflakes. Obata drew inspiration from the story and works of W.A. Bentley, an American farmer and photographer who adapted a camera and microscope to photograph a single snow crystal for the first time in 1885. Bentley went on to photograph more than 5,000 snowflakes in his lifetime, and his technique was so successful that it continues to be used today. Like Bentley, Obata was obsessed with the challenge of doing something no one had done before – in his case photographing snowflakes in freefall rather than on a flat surface without digital or any other manipulation. It took Obata five years to achieve but his breakthrough resulted in the capture of pictures that allow the snowflakes to relate to each other in space and size, creating dynamic compositions and scenes. Obata chose the location to shoot the series, in the mountains of Hokkaidō, based on its history as the place where Dr. Ukichiro Nakaya did research that led to his invention of artificial snow. His most recent book "Wintertale" gathers his photographs of winter...

Curved Break Wall (Archival Aerial Landscape Photograph of Turquoise Water)
Located in Hudson, NY
Minimalist aerial landscape photograph of turquoise blue water and curved break wall Archival digital print, Edition of 25 (#094) Image size 23.5 x 29 inches with 2 inch border, made to order Also available in the following sizes: Image size 31 x 39 inches with 2 inch border $3200 Image size 38.5 x 48 inches with 2 inch border $4500 The aerial photographs of pilot and photographer John Griebsch capture natural and man-made landforms from a bird's-eye view and turn them into art. Employing his mature and professional sense of composition, gained from a photography career that began at the age of 12, Griebsch here photographs turquoise blue water above Lake Michigan near Chicago, IL. When seen from above, the break wall that spirals into the blue water resembles an abstract line on a minimalist abstract canvas. Artist statement: My aerial photographs present a sense of selective design applied to an extremely small and specific area of the vast landscape over which I fly. I find the need to make geographical sense of the earth, as well as the need to make visual sense of a photograph. I work with ambiguity of scale, the graphic quality of nature and with the hand of man upon the landscape. My images have an abstract and often painterly quality. They are at once factual and interpretive. Familiar landscapes take on a fresh context when airborne. The images require the confluence of several factors. There is the subject – a minuscule segment of the landscape that has captured my interest due to its sense of pattern, order or disarray. There is the essential contribution of light. There is the position and altitude of the airplane, and there is a need to capture the stillness and composition of the moment while moving over the subject at more than seventy miles per hour. My earliest aerial photographs were of ice and farmland, made close to home. The scope of the work opened up on solo flights across the continent in my vintage 1952 Cessna 170B. Those flights are made to find images of landscapes on a grander scale as well as unfamiliar opportunities to find images that take in a small detail. In my most recent work I’ve discovered what might be regarded as historical or documentary themes – some of the images of factories and quarries present relics of the country’s industrial past, while my newer images of the landscape and agriculture denote changes in the scale of farming and open space. The existing body of work, titled Aerias is comprised of more than two hundred images. Collections of my images have been placed in corporate and business settings and in private collections. I started photographing when I was twelve years old. My father taught me to fly when I was fourteen years old. Before taking off on my first solo flight, he admonished me not to go out of sight of the airport. I was soon out of his view and yet from where I was, the airport was always in sight. Such are the perceptions of a photographer who is airborne. More about the artist: Resume John Griebsch is an aerial photographer and pilot whose aerial landscapes depict natural and man-made landforms. His images of the American landscape have been made from his vintage Cessna 170, in which he has logged more than 100,000 miles. At present there are 300 images in his series of work, titled, AERIAS. Season of the Witch - Agent Provocateur
Located in London, GB
Signed, Stamped & Numbered Edition of 25 Plus 3 Artist's Proofs From installment of 4 lavish tableaux vivants for Agent Provocateur campaigns The Season of the Witch was shot for Agent Provocateur in May 2009 at Dorney court. It was commissioned by Joe Corre and Serena Rees the original owners. Joe and I had been looking at Hogarth's etchings for A Rakes Progress, which later became an opera by Stravinski depicting the decline of Tom Rakewell, “For idle hearts and hands and minds the Devil finds work to do.” We decided we would create our own version of Bedlam but with Agent Provocateurs seductive point of view. The challenge was to shoot their whole collection, over thirty-five pieces of lingerie and put them into one image. Despite the misconception that it is a huge multi composition in photoshop, the truth is, it isn’t. Camera position locked off and working to a very specific layout conceived with all the girls from the shop, the picture is assembled in three parts. The right-hand side of the image using our ten models and extras was shot first, then as individual scenarios. Then came the balcony shot as they changed costumes to shoot the left-hand side. Fenton Bailey son of David played Tom, and Chloe Hayward his prospective wife who stumble into the witches coven, a twisted version of The Rocky Horror show. The witches included Alice de Lal, Daisy Lowe, Peaches Geldof, Marina Jameson, Raquel Nave, Awoui, Alex Jenny and Paz de la Huerta from Broadwalk Empire. Charlie Anderson brought a rack of costumes which everyone was persuaded to dress up in, whether it was the snake wrangler, who at one point “mislaid” a nine-foot boa constrictor, photo assistants, strip club doormen, some random punks we found roaming the streets of Windsor and the entire hair and makeup team. Joe Corre, son of Malcolm McClaren and Vivienne Westwood made a cameo performance in all four tableaus and can be seen behind the chandelier with all the girls from their offices all suitably attired. We actually flew the owl across the set but the wolf that belonged to the owner of the house was brought in and shot separately. On my first presentation of the artwork there was a degree of disapproval, perhaps cutting the brides throat was a tad over the top but Joes only reaction was “ couldn’t we have a bloody great big pentagram painted on the floor?” I returned to my office that afternoon and duly painted the floorboards with the devil's insignia which was then comped onto the shot. With productions like this, so many people go unmentioned such as my producer Jenny, Jess Morris, Sarah Shotton, Kirstin Piggott and Eamonn Hughes on hair and make up my dear friend Peter Smith who styled all the food, and most importantly my partners in crime Lee Stuart who assembled everything without any hesitation and a huge degree of inspiration, and Mark Townsend who balanced the light and made the 5x4 plate camera...

Bono - Oversize Signed Limited Edition Print Bono, lead singer of Irish band U2, sound checks before a concert in Vancouver, British Columbia. Vancouver, April 2005 (photo Kevin Westenberg) NB All prints are signed and numbered by the artist. Unframed Signed and numbered by the artist. Edition limited to 25 only this size Printed 2020 About the image: "The interesting thing about this is that he’s holding what is the original green Gretsch with the handwritten phrase “The Goal Is Soul” which was just in the process of being auctioned off. My basic research can only find that it may have fetched $180,000 but cannot remember what charity it was going. May have been in the early days of the Product (RED) charity but can’t quite remember. This all happened during the filming of the video for “City Of Blinding Lights” at GM Place in Vancouver B.C. During early filming before the shoot was announced on the radio earlier in the day, which allowed a few thousand fans to fill the arena as extras. In latter years the green Gretsch became more formalized and the Goal Is Soul was then added as a design element." - Kevin Westenberg This size image: 20 x 24" / 51 x 61 cm OTHER SIZES AVAILABLE : Size 1. 16 x 20" Signed and numbered edition of 25. cost $ 2,500 Size 2. 20 x 24" Signed and numbered edition of 25. cost $ 2,950 Size 3. 24 x 30" Signed and numbered edition of 25. cost $ 3,375 Size 4. 30 x 40" Signed and numbered edition of 10 (+2 a/p). cost $ 5,605 Size 5. 40 x 60" Signed and numbered edition of 3 (1 a/p). cost $ 18,500 About the artist : Kevin Westenberg is famed for his creation of provocative and electrifying images of world-class musicians, artists and movie stars for over 25 years. Westenberg is self-taught and learned his trade working for the UK inkies “New Musical Express” and “Melody Maker” mainly throughout the late 80’s and 90’s documenting amongst others all the UK ‘Britpop’ bands. The breakthrough came in 1993-1994 with the release of Sting’s Ten Summoner’s Tales and Mary J Blige’s Share My World. These two album covers changed the perception of the work worldwide and thus began a run of 20 years of commissions and choice opportunities. For the last 25 years, his musical heritage includes portraits of Radiohead, Thom Yorke, Coldplay, White Stripes, Jane's Addiction, Sting, Bjork, Nirvana, Jeff Buckley, Luther Vandross, Nine Inch Nails, Stone Roses, The Pixies, Paul Weller, Rufus Wainwright, Michael Stipe, U2, Mary J. The last 15 years he’s been a staff photographer at MOJO Magazine producing many covers and features. Most recently photographing Sir Paul McCartney for the cover story of the November 2013 issue. Westenberg’s biggest honour to date arrived in 2012 when he had his first major global museum show. The location was the ‘Kobe Fashion Museum’, one of Japan’s largest museums. The whole museum was dedicated to Westenberg’s works for a 3 month period. Over 70 images were included in a wide range of sizes, styles and presentation. Homage to Wilson A. Bentley #4
Located in New York, NY
Listing includes framing, free shipping and 14-day returns. Yuji Obata Homage to Wilson A. Bentley #4, 2005 - 2006 19 x 13 inch archival pigment print Edition 3 of 10 Signed and editioned on verso *Please note there is some wear and tear on the frame as noted in the additional images. The listing is priced accordingly. If you would like the piece to be reframed please contact us and we will provide a discounted rate with our framer here in New York or at our Los Angeles location. Yuji Obata was born in Japan in 1962.
