2014

About the Item

Bog Dog by Keith Carter presents a portrait of a dog looking off into the distance. This photograph is listed as a 20 x 16 inch archival pigment print, with the paper size measuring 22 x 17 inches. This print is available in an edition of 25. It is signed, titled, dated and numbered in pencil on print verso by Keith Carter. Bog Dog is from Carter's series, Ghostland. Keith Carter is an American photographer who is known for his dreamlike black and white photographs of the figure, animals, and meaningful objects. He began photographing new and unknown realities using East Texas natives as subjects. This population and background setting spoke to the folklore, religious, and cultural motifs Carter was visually exploring. Since his start in Texas, his work continues to push imaginative realms while reaching prestigious artistic and technical status. In 1970, Carter earned a Business Management degree from Lamar University and began his career as a commercial photographer while working on personal projects. These personal projects have become a strong and highly sought after collection that have become twelve published monographs. Carter currently teaches photography at Lamar University as a Distinguished Faculty Lecturer. He travels worldwide providing photography lectures and workshops for artists. Carter’s fine art photography collections have made him the recipient of an array of awards such as the 2009 Texas Medal of Arts, 2009 Artist of the Year presented by the Art League Houston and, in 1991 the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University presented Carter with the Lange-Taylor Prize. His work has also been featured in print, online publications, television, and film. In 2006, the Anthropy Arts in New York filmed a documentary about Carter’s photographic work, and in 1997 CBS made an art segment on Carter’s work for public television. He has extensively exhibited his work throughout the world and participated in over 100 solo exhibitions. Permanent collections of his work can be found in many private and public institutions like the National Portrait Gallery, Museum of Fine Arts, Smithsonian, American Art Museum, Art Institute of Chicago and Texas State University.

AVAILABLE SIZES: 11 x 14 in., Edition of 25 16 x 20 in., Edition of 25 "The discovery of fast cars and auto racing rocked my world as a high school student in the early 1960s. After graduating I did everything I could to wrangle assignments to cover two of the biggest international endurance races held annually in Florida. The Daytona 24-Hour and Sebring 12-Hour races were the highlight of my early years as a photographer. Covering racing events in the Sixties was a lot different from what it is today. Access to the racers and the cars was much easier and there were far fewer photographers covering any event. As a fan and a photojournalist in search of a great story, I usually hung around Carroll Shelby’s pit. Shelby and his Cobras were always race winning contenders. “Shel” was easy to work with and to be around. He let me do what I wanted and go where I pleased to capture a story. At the 1964 Sebring race, Shel was recovering from surgery, alternating between crutches and a wheelchair. As his good friend and motor racing artist Bill Neale...

  • Business Hand shake Eldon Guller and Bamber of Coutts Bank Strand London 1986
    Located in London, GB
This Rare Vintage Silver Bromide Print is Signed by the Photographer, Brian Griffin. This photograph was commissioned by Coutts & Co. in 1986. Coutts & Co. is a London-headquartered private bank and wealth manager. Founded in 1692, it is the eighth oldest bank in the world. This is a rare Vintage Silver Bromide Print (1986) in a bespoke exhibition frame; Oak frame, museum mount-board and anti-reflective AR UV protective Art glass. Inspired by fine art movements; from Renaissance to Symbolism, Expressionism and Surrealism film and literature, Griffin began his career taking corporate portraits for Management Today Magazine in the early 1970s, the magazine that took the publishing world by storm, combining hard-hitting editorial with innovative design. Growing up and working in the Industrial Midlands of England, this influenced Griffin to define his aesthetic and install real emotions and character to the people in front of his camera, setting scenes and forging his own imaginative and unique visual language. “I think that Brian (ie. Brian Griffin) is one of the most interesting portrait photographers ever. His portrait photography belongs to another time. Portrait photography today is like so simple, so straightforward, so it seems that all photography portraits are alike. Brian is different and Brian has a craziness in him – a craziness in a way to see the world, and intensity that belongs only to him.” – Francois Hébel, Director, Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson (present), Director, Les Rencontres d’Arles (1986-1987, 2001-2014), in the documentary by Michael Prince...
