Berenice Abbott (American, 1898-1991), "Rockefeller Center Foundation", Gelatin Silver Print, 1932, printed later circa 1965, signed in pencil lower right, with Swann Auction Gallery label to reverse. Image: 13" H x 10" W; mat: 24" H x 20" W. Provenance: Swann Auction Galleries, New York, 6 April 1998, Lot 140. From the 50 East 89th Street estate of a 20th century photography collector. The image is a black and white photograph by Berenice Abbott, titled "Foundations of Rockefeller Center, New York" and taken in 1932. It is a part of her series "Changing New York," which documented the city's rapid transformation in the 1930s. The photograph captures the steel framework of the Rockefeller Center during its construction, showcasing the intricate network of girders and beams that formed the foundation of the iconic complex.
