Tavik Frantisek Simon
Tavik Frantisek Simon (1877–1942) was a major Czech etcher, painter and woodcut artist. After studying at the Academy of Fine Art in Prague, he had his first one-man show in that city in 1905. By 1917, Simon was a professor of art at the same Academy and later chairman of the influential Hollar Association of Czech Graphic Art.
Simon went on to travel the world and by 1920 he was an established artist with an international reputation. His work shows his love for the French Impressionists and, later on, Japanese woodblock prints. His delicate use of colors and impressionistic tones gives his work a unique quality. He was truly a master of his art.
