This original exhibition poster was created for Neil Welliver’s 1989–1990 touring exhibition, presented jointly by the Colby College Museum of Art in Waterville, Maine, and The Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown, Ohio.
Celebrated for his monumental landscapes of the Maine wilderness, Neil Welliver was a leading figure in postwar American realism. His works are known for their rigorous compositions, luminous color, and profound stillness—capturing the raw, untouched beauty of the natural world with a modernist’s eye for structure and detail.
The poster features one of Welliver’s signature wooded scenes, marked by flat planes of color and crisp detail, a style that evolved from his early training in abstract expressionism.
