About the Item

Denning is best known for his bronze figurative sculptures and his watercolors on paper. This work, Snow Crow, is a dye sublimation transfer on aluminum with a gloss finish. Denning developed this striking digital collage in black, white, yellow, red, turquoise and pink from an original series of photographs he took with a live model and various other sources, including a photograph of a crow from a trip to North Carolina and live chicken on a French outdoor market. The rich, almost black background is contrasted by the yellow areas in a bold composition. Denning evokes a dream-like atmosphere with custom brush strokes that he creates especially for his computer work. The black aluminum frame is a total of 3/4" wide and is shown on the second image. There is a black recess of 1/2" that makes the image appear as if it were floating. No glass. This is edition 1/5. No additional works have been printed in this edition to date. Signature, date and edition number are inscribed in the aluminum with a diamond pen. John Denning became fascinated by the human figure during his days as a student at the Art Center School of Design in Los Angeles, where he received his BA in 1955. His background in the arts is rooted in painting and drawing, with a particular exploration of watercolor. His sculptures, mostly bronzes, explore humans (sometimes in relationship to animals) as we come into focus and fade, inviting reflection on the passage of time. Denning became an early adopter of the computer as a tool for painting in the mid-1980's and his current practice includes sculpture, photography, digital painting, mixed media and painting on canvas and paper media.

Reclining Figure with Bird bronze pedestal sculpture
By John Denning
Located in Glen Ellen, CA
Commissioned to create a life-sized reclining figure, John Denning made two maquettes during a stay in a medieval hamlet in France. This is the cast of one of these wax maquettes, finished in a dark bronze patina. Smooth surfaces contrast with highly textured areas, as the figure seems to emerge from a block heavily worked with drips and carvings. As if a ruin herself, the figure’s arm and leg seem partially eroded away, while a bird lighted...

"Moonlight" unique bronze sculpture
By Gerard Tsutakawa
Located in Glen Ellen, CA
Many of Gerard Tsutakawa’s home-sized sculptures, and some of his public ones, have a geometric window that allows the viewer to go through and beyond the form. In “Moonlight,” this small circle becomes the moon and one can go through its phases simply by moving from side to side, the highly polished edges of the circle’s edges mimicking delicate moonlight peering through the night of the dark patina surrounding it. "Moonlight" is finely hand-crafted in fabricated bronze, as opposed to cast, and is therefore one-of-a-kind rather than an edition. Finished with the artist’s rich, dark patina with bluish tinges and a polished inner circle. Gerard Tsutakawa’s designs are a confluence of the cultures and traditions of the Pacific Rim. Tsutakawa grew up with a rich heritage of Japanese design creativity and sensibility combined with a lifetime spent in the Pacific Northwest’s beautiful natural environment. Exposure to the esthetics of cultures around the Pacific Rim instilled a humanistic approach to his creative process. He gathers images as bold as a Tongan war club, or as sensitive as folded origami paper, and creates a subliminal integration as a new art form.   Tsutakawa apprenticed with his father, the late George Tsutakawa...

Figurative sculptor and painter Noa Bornstein was born in San Rafael, California, and grew up mostly in Los Angeles. She has lived and worked in New York City since 1986. Bornstein holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from The University of California at Santa Cruz. "Spinning to Sagittarius" kinetic sculpture
Located in Glen Ellen, CA
This stunning kinetic sculpture is made of welded, powdercoated, and painted steel in white and gradient shades of metallic pink, spiraling at the top of a tall pole. The colorful top section is counterbalanced by a brake drum and concrete cone that moves inside of a steel cage over an embedded base made of cast iron antique man-hole covers. It catches even the slightest breeze for near-constant movement! Please watch the video to see the incredible wind-powered kinetic in action. Jeff Glode...
