Original lithograph by Mexican artist Emilio Amero (1901-1976) created 1950. Titled: “Mujer Escuchando La Concha (Woman with Shell). Edition size is 15 of 125. Signed in pencil lower left. In excellent condition. Image size: 12 1/4"h x 9 3/4"w. Presents in a 4-ply museum mat measuring 20"h x 16"w. Born in the village of Ixtlahuaca, in the state of Mexico, Emilio Amero counts Spaniards and Otomi Indians among his ancestors. Shortly after his birth, the family moved to Mexico City. In 1911 he began his studies in art at the Academy of San Carlos. He also studied drawing privately with Antonio Gomez, a family friend and well-known newspaper artist. At the academy in 1917, he became acquainted with Diaz de Leon, Rufino Tamayo, Ramon Alva de la Canal, Enrique Ugarte, and Leopoldo Mendez-all students there at the time. This beautiful original etching and aquatint is by the noted Czech artist Vojtech Preissig. The work depicts one of the beautiful female portraits from his Orchid series in the Art Nouveau style. The image measures 1 5/8"h x 2"wide. The paper size is 6 3/4"h x 5 1/2"h. The work is signed in pencil with the artist’s name beneath the image lower left. The print is un-matted and unframed, in perfect condition - ready to frame and enjoy. Vojtech Preissig (1873-1944) was born in the Czech Republic - His father was a mining engineer. In 1884 he moved to Prague where he studied at the School of Applied Industrial Art from 1892 to 1896, then at the School of Decorative Architecture from 1897 to 1898. In 1897 he moved to Paris and worked for two years with the Czech Art Nouveau artist Alphonse Mucha. He returned to Prague in 1903 where he founded the periodical "Czech Graphics", published the book "Color Etchings and Color Engravings" in 1909 and opened his own graphics studio in 1905. He moved to the United States in 1910 and worked as an art instructor. Preissig remained in the United States until 1930. He taught at Columbia University and the Art Students League of New York starting in 1912, then moved to Boston by 1916 and taught a course in graphic arts for the Wentworth...

Etching and engraving with hand coloring in watercolor on cream laid paper. 6 3/4 X 9 5/8 inches (170 x 244 mm), margins trimmed, image intact. Rubbing in the lower left image area obscuring the publishing information (which reads Published by Mm. Darchery, St. James Street March 11, 1783), scattered light foxing, corner loss, top left corner, well outside of image area. "SMP" collector's stamp in red ink on the verso (not in Lugt), and the name "Renier" and the initials "AR" in black ink on the verso. Colors are extremely fresh. Impressions of this work may be found in the permanent collection of the British Museum, and the Yale Center for British Art. Ex-Collection of Anne & Ferdinand Gabriel (F.G.) Fox had fallen out of favor with the Irish born Shelburne, also a Whig, whose ministry remained in power just long enough to see the American War of Independence...
