BRUSSEL-SMITH SELF PORTRAIT is an original hand drawn stone lithograph by the American artist Bernard Brussel-Smith, hand printed by Master printer Joseph Kleineman, JK Fine Art Editions Co. NYC in 1978. BRUSSEL-SMITH SELF PORTRAIT was hand proofed and printed from hand drawn lithography stones in black and tan colored ink on Buff color ARCHES paper 100% acid free. BRUSSEL-SMITH SELF PORTRAIT depicts a realistic rendering of the artist himself as a bearded man; a meticulously drawn portrait with fine facial details, full beard, smoking pipe, head shading contours, and an assemblage of vintage photo snapshots from his lifetime memories all beautifully executed using the sublime alchemy of traditional lithographic printmaking by the master artist Bernard Brussel-Smith. The closeup photograph shows the printed fine textures achieved from the lithography stone's grained suface. Upon close inspection, the reverse side of the paper bears the pinhole registration marks for aligning the drawings when printed. Hand lithography is a truly a printmaking technique of fine craftsmanship!

Bernard Brussel-Smith (1914-1989) was a well-known 20th Century artist and illustrator, specializing in the medium of wood engraving. He was born, raised, and lived most of his life in New York City, a constant source of imagery for the artist from Depression-era 40's, and the post-war 50s until his death. He studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Philadelphia, and the New School for Social Research, New York and later taught art at the Brooklyn Museum, Cooper Union, City College, and the National Academy. Brussel-Smith was elected an Associate Member of the National Academy in 1952, and a full Member in 1973. His work is included in various public collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Philadelphia Museum of Art, New York Public Library, and Carnegie Institute.

Bernard Brussel-Smith
Bernard Brussel-Smith was a well-known 20th-century artist and illustrator, specializing in the medium of wood engraving.
Brussel-Smith was born, raised and lived most of his life in New York City, which was a constant source of imagery for the artist, from the Depression-era '40s through the postwar '50s until his death. He studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia and the New School for Social Research in New York. He later taught art at the Brooklyn Museum, Cooper Union, City College and the National Academy. Brussel-Smith was elected an Associate Member of the National Academy in 1952 and became a full member in 1973.
Brussel-Smith's work is included in various public collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, New York Public Library and Carnegie Institute.

DE ES (DE ES Schwertberger) - Popular Viennese Fantastic Realist artist was born in 1942 in Gresten, Lower Austria, as Dieter Schwertberger. He studied the painting technique of the Old Masters in Vienna under Ernst Fuchs and has been an independent artist since 1962. DE ES lived three years in Switzerland and twelve years in New York City. The painter has been known under the name DE ES since 1972. He currently lives in Vienna.
The artist considers himself to be a seeker, who shows what he has found through “the language of the images”. His message of “meaning and transformation” finds clear and intense expression in his paintings through a precise use of space, light and texture.
