About the Item

Cesar Andrade is an artist, poet and musician born in Guarico, Venezuela in 1939. He studied at El Tucayo and at the School of Fine Arts in Barquisimeto. In 1964 he became a professor at the School of Plastic Arts of Acarigua Venezuela. In 1968, after having held exhibitions in Venezuela, he travelled Europe and eventually moved to Paris. The following year, he presented his ‘linigramas’, which represented the first in-depth study on the analysis of line. During the 1970s, he attended art courses held by Frank Popper at the University of Vincennes and by Jean Cassou at the Collège de France. As a kinetic artist, he works with the geometry of nails to ultimately create a vibrating surface. The primary elements of geometry, which dictate the arrangement of the nails, are the straight line and the point. solidity and emptiness are balanced, producing a vibration on the surface, while the diagonal and oblique lines convey unexpected elements, transforming the surface into a grid. We thus begin to understand that the key player of Andrade’s work is something outside the work itself: light. Direct frontal lighting would not allow us to perceive any depth; however, by directing the lighting to the side, one can then see a negative image - the shadow - which doubles the surface of the represented elements. The nail is always the focus of Andrade’s works, and the surprising negative space created between nail and shadow provokes a sensation of dizziness and unsteadiness. In this moment, the insignificance of the nail is completed by its shadow, thereby altering the appearance of the work. The physical surface dissolves, the location of the material is blurred, and the reflections of colour are scattered. He passed away in 2022.

GS06, 3D Wall Sculpture, Geometric Abstract Multicolor
By Zach Touchon
Located in Beverly Hills, CA
This artwork is part of a series called "Geometric Sculpture" and is a unique 3D sculpture that features a variety of vibrant colors including yellow, orange, red, blue, dark blue, and black. The sculpture is abstract in nature and showcases geometric shapes that add actual depth and space to the piece, making it visually striking and aesthetically pleasing to the viewer. Zach Touchon has expressed a desire to step outside the traditional format and focus on movement and 3D effects. As a result, the sculpture creates shadows that further enhance the 3D effect, making the piece truly dynamic and engaging. Touchon has also mentioned his goal to create even larger pieces in the future, pushing the boundaries of the series and the medium itself. Overall, this artwork is a visually stunning and unique addition to the "Geometric Sculpture" series, showcasing the artist's dedication to creating pieces that challenge traditional art forms and create a sense of depth and movement. -- Zach Touchon is a contemporary LA-based abstract expressionist artist. Besides that, Touchon is also an actor, a singer, a screenwriter, and an owner of the Touchon Gallery. Zach Touchon is a second-generation and a successor to his famous father's, Cecil Touchon's, artistic path. By rethinking abstract expressionism ideas, using different media he creates large abstract artwork along with small collages, huge murals, and interior installations. The main focus of his art is depth and space and finding a semantic and aesthetic balance between them. As a muralist, Touchon joins the ranks of such great LA street artists as WRDSMTH, Retna, Shepard Fairy, and Dirt Cobain...

"Home", abstract sculpture, wood, paint, geometry, circle, center, flow
Located in Toronto, Ontario
"Home" is an abstract artwork by Stan Olthuis composed of acrylic paint on baltic birch panel. Home measures 40" high by 30" wide by 1" deep. Typical of the artist, this minimal geometric abstraction resonates with a rich charge. It's a sculpture and a painting. The lines are elegant. The artist's obsession with geometry and intersecting shapes is a clear gesture here. The eye delights in the formal play of shape and color, while the mind engages the material force of the wood and paint. From Stan Olthuis – "My work has always involved tactility and expressionistic energy. I visualize the story and imagery simultaneously, allowing the work to surprise me and come to life as I work. I am almost careless in how I use color and texture, facing the fear of improvising on-the-fly. I like to leave the obvious raw record of the process visible, but I believe a mystery remains." Stan Olthuis looks for expressive opportunities in found and harvested raw material – wood, stone, metal, rubber – and brings a fabricator's expertise to the work of making minimalist, joyful sculptures. Geometry is key, as are a sense of play and an adept's feel for sacred energies. His work is exhibited and collected internationally, including private and corporate commissions in Canada, United States, France, Japan and Norway. Stan is represented by Gagné Contemporary in Toronto and New York City, and has select works available through the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO), and Motokawa Gallery in Japan. Stan Olthuis' formal education began in Chicago with Henk Krijger, the celebrated master printmaker, type designer, painter and sculptor. Back in Toronto, Olthuis graduated (with distinction) with a degree in Experimental Arts at Ontario College of Art & Design (OCAD), studying under artists Fred Hagen, Tom Hodgson...
