My creative journey is guided by a deep appreciation for order, precision, and the beauty of minimalism. Each of my pieces is meticulously crafted from thousands of painted wooden dowels, inserted into digitally designed boards with machine-drilled precision. This fusion of digital technology and handcrafted artistry ensures both structural complexity and expressive depth.
Each dowel acts as a droplet of paint, where every decision in placement and color contributes to the overall effect. Together, these individual elements coalesce into a harmonious composition, creating a vibrant and tactile experience that evolves with the viewer's perspective. By extending the boundaries of the art to encompass the dimensions of the room itself, I invite viewers to engage with my art dynamically and personally, revealing new facets of color, shape, and emotion from every angle in a shared visual narrative.

Matt Bilfield
Matt Bilfield is no stranger to process-oriented art. As the Fox Sports Lead Animation Designer, he is building layer after layer of pixelated art. His fine art creations are just his tangible pixels. Born in New Jersey, raised in Southern California, he quickly realized after college that selecting a tie to complement my striped shirt wasn’t enough to satisfy his creative side. So he taught himself graphic design and built a career around it. In the framework of the television graphics that he creates, he noticed that it was always the image that constantly changes as the viewer watches, inactively. When it comes to art, his inclination drives him towards creating pieces, where the vantage point dictates the image, in turn activating the viewer. Where the television screen has the plastic framework as its boundary, he wanted to extend that boundary to the dimensions of the room itself. His idea was that everyone seeing the art gets to have his or her unique perspective. He imagined a more active art medium without guidelines and boundaries. Soon he conceived a platform to realize the ultimate union of both graphics and fine art.

ABOUT
This Charred white oak mushroom acts as a stool or end table.
“There’s no color in my work,” says Shlafer, “I either burn it, bleach it, or leave it alone.” Shlafer’s sculptures are designed with rudimentary material such as pine, oak, and spruce salvaged as driftwood on the Eastern end of Long Island. The artist started this body of work during the pandemic after he stumbled upon the charming discoveries while traveling on foot by the coastline. Always a wayfarer at heart, he drew inspiration from his youth of traveling on a motorcycle through Southern Africa and seeing indigenous art made from ordinary earth objects within local villages.
“Wishbone 1” a 5 Foot sculpture, charred white oak with a tinted aqua resin base that reflects an omen of resilience and hardiness in light of the hardships of the past pandemic year, In another “Tune” a bleached spruce fence post narrowed into a tuning fork shape with a slate base. It welcomes a ceremonial vibe. “At the end of the day, that’s the energy we all crave,” says Shlafer, “who doesn’t respond to that?”
