Jaime Avila Ferrer is a world-renowned artist whose work combines painting, sculpture, drawing, and photography. He uses mixed media in some pieces such as Dust, in which dots of white paint are applied to a darkened Plexiglas surface to form pictures of urban landscapes from the granulations. Outline for Dust is an artwork in which he connects the cityscape of Bogota with the JFK airport in New York. He uses traditional approaches to examine social, political, and environmental topics.
Avila studied civil engineering at the Universidad de Los Andes in Bogota (1983–1987) and received his degree in Fine arts from the same university (1988–1991). He has presented solo shows such as Talento Pirata, Jaime Ávila (Pirate talent, Jaime Ávila), at the Nueveochenta Gallery in Bogota (2013). His first shows in the United States were Life is a Catwalk at the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies at Harvard University and 4th World – Five Cubic Meters at the Boston Arts Academy (2005). Ávila represented Colombia at the XXVI Sao Paolo Biennial in Brazil (2004), the III Liverpool Biennial in the United Kingdom (2004), the II Mercosul Biennial in Brazil, (2000), and the FIAC in Paris, France (1999). Dina Recanati (born Diane Hettena; 1928 – 2021) was an Israeli artist, sculptor and painter.
Diane Hettena was born in Cairo, Egypt. In 1946, she married Raphael Recanati in Tel Aviv, Mandatory Palestine.
Went to London to study History and Art 1946-1948.
Moved to New York 1948. Raised two sons, Oudi and Michael.
Attended Art Student League 1959-1962. Studied with Jose de Creft and John Hovannes.
Beginning in 1964, she was active on the board of the America-israel Cultural Foundation. In the 1970s, she was a member of the board of the Israel Museum and in the 1980s Bezalel Academy of Art & Design, Jerusalem. At the same time as she was working as an artist, she was also collecting artwork. She lives and works in Herzliya and New York.
Most of Recanati's work is in the medium of sculpture. Her works, which contain images of books or parchment, have been influenced by American abstract expressionism in their use of swaths of color. In the 1980s and 1990s, she worked widely in sculptures in the public domain. Dina Recanati was a proponent of Israeli art and supported many Israeli artists. In the 1950s and 1960s, she showcased the work of beginning artists at the 5th Avenue branch of Israel Discount Bank in New York City, while growing Discount Bank’s art collection.
She has gone on to exhibit worldwide with permanent works in the Israel Museum, Tel Aviv Museum, Ben Gurion Airport, The Jewish Museum (New York) among others. She is the recipient of the AICF AVIV Award and The Council for a Beautiful Israel Yakir Award.
She was represented by Flomenhaft Gallery in New York City (was included in the Feminist Art Project along with Miriam Schapiro) and Gordon Gallery in Tel Aviv.
Recanati died in Herzliya Pituah at the ate of 93.

Rain Harris uses her artistry with material to create a conversation between good taste, beauty, and tawdriness. By developing a piece with unrefined materials and bringing it to the point of refinement, she is creating art that asks where good and bad taste meet. This contemporary ceramic piece features a delicate array of porcelain flowers, berries, and leaves mounted on an organically shaped wooden plinth. Carlos Betancourt (born San Juan, Puerto Rico 1966) is an American multi-disciplinary artist. His artworks explore issues of memory, and his own experiences, while also dwelling in issues of nature, the environment and matters of beauty, identity and communication. He has worked as a curator, furniture designer and has collaborated in with Louis Vuitton as well as on architectural and site-specific private and public commissions with architect Alberto Latorre.
Betancourt artwork is in part inspired by his relationship with nature as well as by the diverse cultures and history of the Caribbean basin, Florida and the Americas. Also by artist Ana Mendieta interventions, Robert Rauschenberg assemblages, Andy Warhol perceptions, Neo Rauch compositions, and a Federico Fellini-esque cast of characters for his photo assemblages. Additionally, he relates to some of theorist Jean Baudrillard views about art and his philosophy on objects; French artist Gustave Courbet's idea that "the only possible source for living art is the artist's own experiences", as well as the Martinican writer and theoretician, Edouard Glissant's belief that ..."the past resides in material objects that only release their hidden meanings when encountered imaginatively and sensuously.
