About the Item
Variation on a theme II : Hegemony is a unique bronze, steel and ash wood sculpture by contemporary artist Peter Brooke-Ball, dimensions are 19 x 31 x 26 cm (7.5 × 12.2 × 10.2 in).
The sculpture comes with a certificate of authenticity.
The humour, simplicity, and sensuality of Peter Brooke-Ball's works surprise despite their lack of a clear, self-evident message. The intention is to make “objects that are gorgeous with a hint of mystery“, as he himself puts it. The sculptures question ideas of protection and bonding while occasionally making references to violence or coercion. This is in line with the artist's statement that “I see each piece as a thought and I want to keep that thought secure and precious, fearing it might all slip away“. The titles of sculptures frequently allude to a concept, a circumstance, or an emotion, even though each viewer responds differently and has their own interpretation. Above all, the artist appreciates feedback from young viewers who are uninhibited and have a tactile and instinctive connection to the sculptures.

Peter Brooke-Ball
Peter Brooke-Ball’s abstract sculptures surprise with their humour, simplicity and sensuality. His work actively connects and compels the coexistence of dissimilar materials (primarily stone and rope), that are attached, suspended, surrounded, covered or tied to each other. The contrasting, evocative aesthetic elements of the artworks contribute to them being highly enigmatic, sometimes troubling and disturbing, sometimes amusing and playful. Peter Brooke-Ball’s work was featured in a BBC documentary in 2016. The artist is a member of the Royal Society of Sculptors (MRSS), an English organisation that promotes excellence in sculpture. “My overriding passion is purity and simplicity. I strip away superfluous marks and decoration to express simple, honest ideas. What’s left can be a little scary but that is part of the purpose – to unsettle the viewer.”

Abstract wood Sculpture: "Untitled"
By Kelly Bugden + Van Wifvat
Located in New York, NY
The artistic collaboration of Kelly Bugden + Van Wifvat has produced a thought-provoking body of sculptures, paintings, and constructions. Nature, childhood memories, and everyday archetypes take shape in unexpected combinations of materials. The works emerged as the tactile and visual senses channeled the ritualistic power and materiality of selected artifacts.
The resulting objects exist in a space between what they were originally and what they could become. A wheel, for example, is distorted as if seen through a prism. Their collaboration grew out of years of shaping materials into one-of-a-kind objects. Intuitively, the process of creating with their hands took an inward turn. Prism is a travelogue through memories and dreams, yielding abstract forms that capture moments of transformation.
Van Wifvat grew up with eight siblings and studied sculpture and environmental design in Minneapolis at MCAD. In 1979, he opened a storefront art gallery to promote the work of local artists. The space featured printed materials—art books, periodicals, fanzines, and postcard’s. Wifvat moved to New York in 1983 to study at the Fashion Institute of Technology and Parsons. In 1987, he co-founded Van Gregory & Norton design studio, specializing in convex mirrors and curtain hardware...
