Two Knots to the Heavens. Do we have to secure our dreams with two knots?

"Two knots to the Heavens" is a contemporary figurative bronze sculpture where Beatriz Gerenstein shows a figurine holding a long and tall golden-brown rope. In this sculpture, Gerenstein explores our intimate relationship with our inner world and with the material world that surrounds us. The material world is attractive, tempting. It is really within our reach; it is solid and clearly tangible. It offers immediate gratification. However, we are all aware that our relationship with the material, with things and especially with others has something of an illusion, fantasy or theatricality. The material world is always outside of us and, in its totality, is unattainable. Our relationship with ourselves, with our inner world, thoughts and feelings are more honest. On it, we are as we really are. However, the reality of this so-called spiritual world is doubtful. It is close but at the same time distant. We can not touch it, we just feel it. Does it exist? It requires us to work deep within ourselves to fully achieve and enjoy it, but it gives us peace, tranquility, and satisfaction, a delayed but sustainable gratification. What is the figurine doing? Is he trying to climb the rope? Does he want to drop it down? Is he clenching it, aware of the fragility of our spiritual world? Do we have to secure our nonmaterial life with two knots? Beatriz Gerenstein is a contemporary artist whose body of work explores the daily pleasures, anxieties, and mysteries of the human being. In such a world we live in, full of wars and self-regard, violence, grid and political cynicism, Beatriz Gerenstein chose to talk about the human condition, love, friendship, anguish, pleasure, joy, pain, and spirituality, the desire to exist and to love. Gerenstein exhibits widely throughout the world. She showed her work in Venice, Italy during the 56th and 57th Venice Biennale (2015 and 2017). Also participated in the 15th Venice Architecture Biennale (2016) as well as in the IX Florence and 12th Havana Biennials (La Bienal de la Habana, 2015). Prominent art fairs have hosted shows of Beatriz Gerenstein sculptures, like Shanghai Contemporary, Shanghai Art Fair, Art Revolution Taipei, Art Shanghai, Top Galleries in Seoul, the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Art Exhibition in Hong Kong.
