He fought as a soldier of Polish Home Army through all the 63 days of Warsaw Uprising. He was a commander of anti-tank unit. He witnessed the death of his younger brother and many friends.
Tomaszewski started his artistic work in the 1950s in Institute of Industrial Design in Warsaw, an innovative institution with an aim to create modern living in post-war Poland. He cooperated with designers like Henryk Jędrasiak, Mieczysław Naruszewicz i Hanna Orthwein. He created popular porcelain figurines and "Ina" and "Dorota" coffee sets, which were exhibited at the International Exhibition of the Board of the Industrial Designers’ Association (ICSID) in Paris in 1963.
In 1994, he established an international art movement called Emotionalism, together with a group of painters, sculptors, photographers and even dancers and musicians. He started creating his unique fire and smoke paintings. His sculptures were recognized by The New York Times in 1975:
“The most effective among the pieces are the animals or birds that convey the state of tension or movement or brute strength, something that struggles against gravity to maintain its force.”

Kaendler and Porcelain:
Dresden in the 18th century owed its Europe-wide fame as a centre of courtly splendour to the elector Frederick Augustus I (1670-1733). 'August the Strong' had a distinct passion for collecting and was not only a patron and lover of the arts, but also an enthusiastic patron of science. He financed expeditions, from which the researchers were to bring the 'most possible species of their animals alive or in skins and skeletons or even crushed' back to Dresden. Johann Joachim Kaendler had this extensive collection of partly living exhibits at his disposal when he was commissioned to design life-sized animal sculptures for the 'Japanese Palace...

Carl
Carl Kauba was born August 13, 1865 in Vienna, Austria. The son of a shoemaker, Kauba chose to follow his calling into the world of art. Collectors now rank him in a class with Remington and Russell as one of the great portrayers of American Western. His subjects were typically American Indians, calvarymen, cowboys, and roughriders. In addition to his American bronzes, Kauba produced a lifetime’s worth of Austrian statuary. His work became fully appreciated on both sides of the Atlantic.
Carl studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna under professor Laufenberg. Later he would study at the academies under Carl Waschmann and Stefan Schwartz. Next, he went to Paris in 1886 to further study before he set off for the U.S. In fact, some debate still remains as to whether Kauba ever visited the U.S.
Kauba’s fascination with the West was fired by the stories of the German writer, Carl May, whose tales of Western adventure were well known throughout Europe. Most authorities feel that he was about twenty-five years old when he traveled widely throughout the American West. He then returned to Austria with voluminous notes, sketches, and several models of Western sculpture...
