Distress series (Egyptian Blue)
Located in Grosse Pointe Park, MI
"Egyptian Blue," a poignant addition to the "Distress" series, serves as a striking commentary on our civilization's persistent failure to responsibly manage our environment. Through the use of symbolic elements and a visually compelling composition, the artwork addresses the prevalence of short-term solutions, represented by masking tape and staples, in contrast to the imperative need for long-term conservation efforts.
The choice of the title, "Egyptian Blue," adds an intriguing layer of historical and cultural reference, suggesting a timeless connection to the struggles of civilizations in managing their surroundings. The piece delves into the urgency of acknowledging and addressing environmental distress, emphasizing that makeshift solutions are not sustainable, neither for the present nor for the crucial future.
A distinctive feature of the artwork is the incorporation of Morse code...

Poem for a Tree
Located in Grosse Pointe Park, MI
My dedication to addressing environmental concerns through my sculpture has long been a subject for my work. By using my artistic voice to draw attention to the pressing issues facing our planet, I'm hoping to inspire change and raise awareness among viewers.
The fabrication of the stretcher from brass and aluminum highlights my intentionality in material choice, symbolizing the intersection of human industry and natural resources. This juxtaposition of man-made materials with the organic form of the tree log creates a striking visual contrast that prompts viewers to consider the relationship between human activity and the environment.
The use of a naturally hollowed tree...

Wychwood White is an original work by Michael Olsen. The bright and bold colours of the butterflies make this a joyful piece. Olsen’s use of perspex allows for work to fit sleekly into any interior. Michael Olsen says: My working life has lead me down numerous paths. Retailing medicines through my Pharmacy business in the early years to creating the 1st UK Pet superstore in 1990 and more recently operating a coffee shop, I’ve almost always enjoyed how I’ve earned my living. Having spent the greater part of my 74 years making things simply for pleasure or for practical purposes, more recently I’ve been able to allow my artistic impulses develop. What was a hobby has now become a full time and gratifying venture. I enjoy the simple, beautiful things that life has to offer – family, love, the outdoors (cycling through it), music (better heard through a needle) and time spent happily with others as well as alone – all of which inspire me to try to create things to enhance the enjoyment of life. I’ve always been fascinated by nature and in particular butterflies. To me, there is something captivating about that moment when a butterfly stops to allow an onlooker to admire its form. Using this as my stimulus I wanted to see if I could create something that was both contemporary and visually stimulating. An installation which could be displayed in homes, offices, restaurants as well as hotel rooms. I decided to create a flight of butterflies...
