Art Dealers Association of America Collectible Jewelry

Art Dealers Association of America (ADAA)
Founded in 1962, the Art Dealers Association of America is a vetted community of more than 180 top-tier galleries across the United States. Working with these member galleries, ADAA appraisers offer assessment services for artworks spanning from the Renaissance to the present day. The ADAA also arranges public forums on important art-related topics and hosts The Art Show, presented each year at New York’s Park Avenue Armory, which stands out among art fairs for its acclaimed selection of curated booths — many of which are one-artist exhibitions.to

Sterling Silver Native American Indian Motif "Note Holder" American, Circa 1880
Located in Incline Village, NV
Very rare and unusual piece, a sterling silver "note holder" fronted by an Indian Chief on the front in high relief. A bale on top provides for a necklace and hanging as a decorative piece of jewelry. Other decoration on the front includes a tomahawk and a peace pipe criss-crossed beneath the Indian. The back is plain with a decorative "repousse" floral border, and "sterling" clearly marked in the lower left (see image). It is 2 7/8" high x 2" wide resembling and in the style of a match safe; probably manufactured by Unger Bros. of Newark, New Jersey, circa 1880, but difficult to observe all of the surfaces because of the frontal "notes" in permanent place. A note holder would have been used to write down reminders and/or notations by the user; the surfaces appear to be a celluloid type material. Condition is excellent with six notes intact; a very slight "crease" to the back side; hardly noticeable (see image).
Appropriate Americana for the discerning collector with a Western Native American...

Georgian Jewelry Case, English, circa 1790
Located in Incline Village, NV
This all original nicely grained mahogany, 18th century Georgian jewelry case was made in England, circa 1790. It was obviously crafted for the aristocracy, as jewelry boxes from that era are very rare.
A multi-use lift out compartmentalized baize lined interior drawer, with a plethora of different sized sections accommodates various types of jewelry, from rings and pendants, to bracelets. Lifting out this drawer reveals a larger area beneath, to place necklaces, and store other valuables. This is also green baize lined.
The box is in excellent condition and all original with the original finish; a gilt molding to the bottom above the four bracket feet circumvents the case. The jewelry case is very well made, quite heavy in stature; has three hinges to the back, and the original brass keyhole escutcheon to the front. A beaded molding to the base of the lid, and an additional inlaid molding to the top completes the decoration.
Dimensions: 17" wide x 13" deep x 6 1/2" high
Provenance: Richard Gould Antiques...

Navajo Indian Turquoise and Silver Bolo Tie, circa 1960s
Located in Incline Village, NV
This is the Cadillac of the bolo tie as depicted by the Southwest Indians. Handcrafted by Navajo Indian Jim Yazz, circa 1960s, this silver bolo tie has four large irregular hand-cut turquoise stones measuring 3/4" and two smaller round stones set in a pie crust surround depicting eyes of the Indian. There are also two smaller stones on the front of the dress of the Indian on the matching pair of 1 3/4" drum like ornaments hanging beneath the main subject. The main subject Indian with six stones, is 3 5/8" high x 2 1/4" wide.
The drum like ornament with accompanying silver spear ornament is 4 1/2" overall. It is marked “Jim Yazz” who was a Navajo Indian jewelry maker and worked only in silver and turquoise, indicating it is probably silver. The piece is unmarked, albeit a “518” mark appears on the main figure.
The braided black leather "string like" necklace is 20" around, measured above the subject Indian.
The back of the bolo is embossed on the clasp "BENNETT PAT. PEND.", indicating the possible clasp patent of Navajo Indian silversmith, Raymond Bennett, who is listed in "Barton Wright's "Hallmarks of The Southwest".
The value is in the craftsmanship and aesthetics, not whether or not it’s silver.
Provenance: Clive Devenish Collection Art of the American West...
