Linda K Schinkel and Theodore M Schinkel Art

Linda's friends and family relate how she was always painting, drawing and doodling. Yet it wasn't until she was 50 that Linda focused on her visual art practice as her life's mission. She has a Bachelor of Arts from the Literature, Science & Arts College at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor MI and earned her JD in 1979. She began collaborating with her eldest son Teddy in 2010 and her practice has evolved. Linda's art studies include at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor MI, the Sorbonne University of Paris, Paris France, National Geographic in Sienna Italy, National Geographic Around the World Photography Intensive, and an Ox-Bow School of Art Residency, Saugatuck MI. Linda had an Artist Residency at Cranbrook - a leading center of art, education, and science - teaching and speaking, summer of 2023. Linda's works sparkle with synergy and sublime metaphysical connections. Gallery representation since 2004, she was published in “Style” and “Ambassador” magazines prior to being published with Teddy as an artist duo in multiple media publications including "The Wall Street Journal," "USA Today", and "World Wide Art Books". Linda attributes her unique works and career path from utilizing both sides of her brain. She followed her parents' use of right and left brain hemispheres. Linda received the 49th Distinguished Women’s Award from Northwood University, Midland MI, in recognition of her artwork. Teddy communicated through art from as early as age three. At age ten he won a short story competition about traveling back in time meeting Van Gogh in Arles, France. Teddy's life's purpose is an art practice focusing on sublime works assisting viewers in reaching hidden potential. Teddy's works - not entirely abstract, not entirely representative - are a hybrid reflecting opportunity and a growth mindset built on sublime messaging. Teddy earned a Bachelor of Arts in Cinema and Economics from Denison University, Granville OH. Additional art studies include at FAMU, Charles University Prague Czech Republic, College for Creative Studies, Detroit MI and Ox-Bow School of Art Residency, Saugatuck MI. Teddy had an artist residency at Cranbrook, a leading center for art science, and education, teaching and speaking, summer of 2023. He worked in the film industry in Los Angeles, Dallas, Atlanta and Detroit before committing to his visual practice. In 2010 Teddy envisioned creating collaboratively with his mother, Linda. Collaboratively creating with all ages, Teddy has taught and lectured at multiple schools. A work made while teaching currently hangs in the Detroit Mayor's office. Additional collaborative works are at Cranbrook, Bloomfield Hills, MI and Detroit Country Day School, Beverly Hills, MI and in private and business collections. Karl Friedrich Schinkel (1781-1841), the most prominent late 18th to mid 19th century Prussian artist is a familial ancestor. Teddy at age six, with his family and a small group of Karl's relatives, attended the first USA Exhibition of Karl's work at the Chicago Institute of Art, Chicago IL. The Exhibition greatly influenced the artists' work and is the namesake of their practice and gallery.
