R.C. Gorman Sculptures

1931-2005
Rudolph Carl Gorman, known as R.C. Gorman, was born on July 26, 1931, in Chinle, Arizona, on the Navajo Nation. He was of Navajo heritage, which profoundly influenced his artistic style and subjects. Gorman's father, Carl Nelson Gorman, was also an artist and a significant influence on his early artistic development. Gorman attended Arizona State College (now Northern Arizona University) and later studied art at Mexico City College under a scholarship. His exposure to Mexican muralists like Diego Rivera and David Alfaro Siqueiros deeply influenced his work, contributing to his distinctive style that blends Navajo traditions with modern techniques.
