About vitreuos enamel: The inimitably luminous colours are literally created "in the fire": layer by layer, enamel is carefully fired in at 800 degrees Celsius. During guilloching, the finest wave patterns are engraved into the gold, creating a unique depth effect. Vitreous means made of glass: the ancient technique is almost forgotten today and Victor Mayer is perhaps the last manufactory to master it at the highest level. About guilloché: Guilloché refers to a class of enamel with abstract geometric patterns cut into the surface of precious metals and showing clearly through the overlying glaze. The manner in which the design is engraved into the metal increases the luminous quality and play of colors in the translucent glaze when the object is rotated to catch the light. About peridot: Peridot, sometimes called chrysolite, is a deep yellowish-green transparent variety of olivine. Peridot is one of the few gemstones that occurs in only one color. Peridot can be found in mafic and ultramafic rocks occurring in lava and peridotite xenoliths of the mantle. A stunning, fine and impressive antique onyx, pearl, 0.98 carat diamond and enamel, 18 karat yellow gold pendant; part of our diverse Victorian gemstone jewelry and estate jewelry collections. This stunning antique pendant has been crafted in 18k yellow gold. The stunning central oval shaped onyx panel is embellished with an impressive yellow gold eight-pointed star design. This star motif is ornamented with a feature Old European cut diamond to the center, accented with eighteen Dutch cut diamonds graduating in size, in a stellate manner. The anterior surface of the pendant is further ornamented with thirty-two impressive natural and seed pearls, segmented with black hot enamel. This stunning Victorian pendant is suspended from a contemporary 18k yellow gold 18" curb chain via an integrated tapering bale ornamented with three further natural pearls, in addition to a black hot enamel border. The chain secures with a conventional spring-loaded bolt ring fastening to the reverse. This antique locket has been independently tested using state of the art technology (Niton XL2 Analyzer) and verified as 18 karat gold.
