Simon Tozer Abstract Prints

British
Simon Tozer is an award winning printmaker based in Bristol. Simon Tozer's screen prints are constructed images, built up through the layering of translucent colours and through a combination of hand drawn and digital mark making. He is currently working on imagery relating to the sky and sea. The images are a response to the idea of expansiveness: drifting clouds that cross the elemental boundary of land and water, and the reorientation of the sense of self that occurs when, on arriving at the ocean we encounter that vastness of space and the hypnotic attraction of the sea. Simon initially studied painting at Portsmouth, only taking up printmaking later while living in Oxford, where he was the recipient of the National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies Award for print. He became interested in screen print when completing an MA in Print at Chelsea College of Art in 1990. Whilst at Chelsea he received the British Institution Fund Award for Printmaking. In London he worked for some years as a scenic painter and muralist, creating murals as far afield as Moscow and Kenya. Simon exhibits widely, and his work has been included in several prestigious exhibitions including the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, The Royal West of England Autumn Open, and The National Open Print Exhibition. He moved to Bristol in 2002, and produces his prints, as well as teaching screen print, from his studio near Bristol’s Harbourside.

Among the 300 albums[3] are the covers of Magical Mystery Tour by the Beatles, Crown of Creation by Jefferson Airplane, Exile on Main Street by the Rolling Stones, and Hotter Than Hell by Kiss. His first major assignment, in 1963, was designing the poster for the surf film The Endless Summer, after which he served as Capitol Records' head of design from 1965 to 1968. During that time, he worked on the artwork for albums by Capitol artists such as the Beatles and the Beach Boys.[5] He also oversaw the design of the psychedelic posters for the Pinnacle Shrine exposition.[6] The Endless Summer The Endless Summer (John Van Hamersveld illustration) In 1963, Van Hamersveld was hired by director and filmmaker Bruce Brown to design the iconic Endless Summer movie poster using a photograph taken by Bob Bagley, general manager and camera man for Bruce Brown Films. "Night Views" Silkscreen Print by The Skyscape Artist, 25/100
Located in Soquel, CA
"Night Views" Silkscreen Print by The Skyscape Artist, 25/100. By Tetsuro Sawada ( Japanese, 1933-1998) This raven black geometric abstraction focuses on hard-edged horizontal lines, color, and light, giving the impression of dusk through the "bokashi," or shading, technique, which is most difficult in the silkscreen medium, a good example of Sawada's theme of the infinite beyond, the silent emptiness of the universe. Signature in the bottom right corner reads, "T. Sawada '87," titled in the bottom center, "Night Views," and numbered, "25/100," in the bottom left corner. Presented in a new white mat. Paper size: 34"H x 22"W, Mat size: 39"H x 27"W Born in Hokkaido, Tetsuro Sawada (1933-1998, Japanese) graduated from Musashimo Art University where he majored in Western painting. In 1960, he began painting abstract oils...
