Tolla Inbar Art

German, b. 1958

Tolla is considered one of the top Israeli artists working today. Born in Germany in 1958, Tolla attended the Merz school in Stuttgart until 1971. There she specialized in the art of ceramics and sculpture, developing her skill in an art form that would become a lifelong love story. Between 1977 - 1984 she studied at Bustan Institute and at Avni Institute of Arts, where she worked in stone and wood with well-known Russian sculptors. During these years of experimentation with varying materials, she transformed her style from realistic and figurative to more expressive and semi-abstract. Tolla describes her artistic process as a “relentless drive to keep creating different expressions of the ancient human spiritual quest for the divine.” This is evident in her rope sculptures which are both unique and naturalistic, balanced and fluid. In combining contrasting materials such as wood, metal, and bronze she is able to reflect tension or what she refers to as “spiritual optimism.” Tolla’s conviction is that, “our world is mostly composed of light and energy so that theoretically the victory of energy (spirit) over matter is only a question of time.” Tolla's works can be found in numerous private collections throughout Germany, France and the United States.

Bronze Sculpture American Modernist Art Stanley Bleifeld Girl with Bass or Cello
By Stanley Bleifeld
Located in Surfside, FL
Retaining a fine patina and in overall good condition. Signed with initials SB. I believe the edition size was 7 But I cannot find a mark. Stanley Bleifeld (1924 – 2011) was an American sculptor. Stanley Bleifeld was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Bleifeld earned bachelor of fine arts, bachelor of science in education and in 1949 a master of fine arts degree in painting at Tyler School of Art of Temple University. After a trip to Rome in 1959 or 1960 he gave up painting for sculpture. He began his fine-art career as a painter. However, a visit to Italy and exposure to the bronzes of Donatello, Michelangelo, and Ghiberti changed his direction He worked with the Art Foundry of Massimo del Chiaro and alongside artists such as Lucchesi, Harry Marinsky, Fernando Botero, Igor Mitoraj and Ivan Theimer. Many of his early pieces were religious subjects, and reflected both painting and sculptural techniques in bas reliefs* that had "liquid landscapes in undulating reliefs and free-flowing portraits reminiscent of classical fragments" (166-167). He later turned from these abstract pieces to more realistic figures in bronze. Bleifeld was a National Academician in Sculpture, and a member of the National Academy of Design, and helped set policy for that organization. He was also President of the National Sculpture Society. Past presidents of the society have included John Quincy Adams Ward, James Earle Fraser, Chester Beach, Wheeler Williams, Leo Friedlander, Neil Estern, and Cecil de Blaquiere Howard. The first woman to gain admission into the NSS was Theo Alice Ruggles Kitson, in 1893. She was followed a few years later by Enid Yandell and Bessie Potter Vonnoh in 1898; Janet Scudder in 1904; Anna Hyatt Huntington in 1905 and Evelyn Longman and Abastenia St. Leger Eberle in 1906. In 1946, Richmond Barthé was likely the first African-American to be admitted. In 1994, the NSS held their first exhibition outside the United States at the Palazzo Mediceo Di Seravezza in Italy. Titled “100 Years of the National Sculpture Society of the United States of America in Italy” it ran from the 16th of July through the 4th of September and was curated by Nicky and Stanley Bleifeld along with Costantino Paolicchi, Lodovico Gierut and Paolo Giorgi. Among the 60 notable American sculptors whose work was selected for the exhibition were Stanley Bleifeld, Andrew DeVries, Neil Estern, Leonda Finke, Bruno Lucchesi, Barbara Lekberg...

"Circle of Life" 12 Figures
By Tolla Inbar
Located in Wiscasett, ME
Bronze, 2004, on a white wood base, signed, dated and numbered 2/25 on the side of a foot lower left.36 x 36 x 14 in., 38 x 26 x 14 in. (base) 1958 - PRESENT. This sculpture comes in a couple of variations, this particular one features 12 figures. Tolla Inbar was born in Germany in 1958. After attending school in Stuttgart, where she concentrated on ceramics and sculpture, she immigrated to Israel. While passionately pursuing her interests in art and participating in both group and solo exhibitions throughout Israel and Europe, Tolla earned a B.A. in psychology and sociology from Tel Aviv University. Her academic pursuits had a great influence on her creative expression. She later returned to Tel Aviv University to study modern art and learn the traditions of those before her. Throughout her career, Tolla’s works have evolved from realistic and figurative to more expressive and semi-abstract forms. Using the ancient method of bronze casting, Tolla’s work embodies universal questions regarding the reasons for living and the complexity of the universe. The suggestion of movement is strikingly present in these inanimate works. Tolla believes in an individual path that we all must work through in order to reach our spiritual goal. The soul, she believes, is a reflection of the universe and motivates our inner drive. Tolla uses the metaphor of climbing on various external props to express this. The “souls” in these sculptures use stairs...
