Vintage Leonard Paris Printed Silk Mini Dress / Tunic & Pants Set 1970s
By Leonard of Paris
Located in Boca Raton, FL
Synonymous with luxury and innovation, Leonard Paris is collected for its unique prints, like the one found on this dazzling three-piece set from the 1970’s. The kaleidoscopic print has an oriental feel, incorporating flowers such as camellias and chrysanthemums which have traditionally been embroidered on kimonos in Japan. The multiple patterns form a rich canvas for this ensemble, and is a grand example of designer Daniel Tribouillard’s artistry and love of flowers.
Done in a black silk jersey, the tunic begins with a high mandarin collar with cloth button closures, bringing some structure to the otherwise lounge-like feel of this set. Falling several inches above the knee, this tunic can easily be worn as a mini-dress, the beautifully draped kimono sleeves adding a flair of drama while allowing for greater ease of movement. The matching ankle-length pants have black piping down the sides and are tailored to perfection with a straight waistband, pockets, and front pleats, ensuring a slender fit. An accompanying belt of the same fabric may be worn tied at the waist, completing the elegant wrap style silhouette of this ensemble.
The collar is done in print of small jewel-colored flowers and leaves, bordered by stripes of black, light pink, and magenta. This pattern repeats a second time in a concentric circle below the collar, elongating the neck. A pattern of pink whorls and large pink and black chrysanthemums winds its way through the body of the tunic, punctuated by bursts of blooming flowers with turquoise centers and red stamens, surrounded by clusters of magenta leaves.
The kimono style sleeves are done largely in a red honeycomb pattern on a black ground with a small flower set in the center of each hexagon, while a contrasting print of black and pink flowers on a woven ivory ground is set down the side of each sleeve in a narrow band, emphasizing the line from the shoulder. The lower half of the tunic brings balance to the intricate medley of color above the waist, with evenly spaced rows of jewel-colored camellias on a black ground offering a stunning contrast with its use of negative space. A complimentary...

- Is Hublot worth it?1 Answer1stDibs ExpertOctober 24, 2024Many watch lovers believe that Hublot is worth it. Named after the French word for “porthole,” the Hublot, which debuted at the 1980 Baselworld watch and jewelry trade show, did indeed look like a porthole. What made the watch stand out, however, was its radical “fusion” approach to design — that is, the combination of a complex gold case with a band made from rubber. At the time, most high-end watches featured wristbands crafted from luxury materials, so the humble rubber material was a radical shift from fashion trends.
In 2004, watchmaker Jean-Claude Biver became CEO of the company, pushing the brand into the 21st century, including through major collaborations with athletes like sprinter Usain Bolt and artists like Shepard Fairey. In 2005, Hublot launched the Big Bang watch, a fresh statement on the brand’s inventive mixing of tradition and technology with options ranging from gold and a tire-tread-like rubber to a sapphire crystal casing. Other models include the Classic Fusion in 2008, which recalls the 1980s design, and the Manufacture Pieces (MP) collection, which features complex movements. The luxury Swiss watch company continues to innovate while staying true to its “art of fusion” roots.
However, whether or not it’s worth investing in Hublot is totally subjective! At 1stDibs, we believe in buying what you love. Our shopping experience enables discovery and learning, whether you are a seasoned connoisseur or just beginning your collection.

- Is the Calatrava worth it?1 Answer1stDibs ExpertOctober 30, 2024Many watch lovers believe that the Calatrava is worth it. The Calatrava collection launched in 1932 and has remained in the catalogue ever since. It has endured because of its timeless design, an aesthetic epitomized by the reference 3919. That iconic Calatrava model is immediately recognizable by the Clous de Paris hobnail pattern on the gold bezel that frames its elegant time-only dial, with a discreet second subdial at six o’clock. It has come to represent the quintessential entry-level Patek Philippe. However, whether or not it’s worth investing in Patek Philippe Calatrava watches is totally subjective! - What is cloisonné worth?1 Answer1stDibs ExpertApril 8, 2024What a cloisonné piece is worth will depend on what type of piece it is, its condition, rarity and more.
Cloisonné (“cell” in French) is a technique in which thin wires of fine silver or gold are used to outline a design, which is then filled with enamel. The piece is subsequently placed in a kiln where the enamel is melted. Cloisonné is distinct because the individual wires remain visible, forming an outline of the motif. When it comes to jewelry design and other disciplines, cloisonné enamel was popular during the Byzantine Empire.
Collectors of authentic antique Chinese furniture and decorative objects know that Ming dynasty-era cloisonné objects are particularly coveted. Although ornamentation was minimal at the time, Ming dynasty furniture often featured carved or painted details of flowers, insects, dragons, fruits and other motifs.
As overseas trade expanded, techniques from the West, like cloisonné enamel painting, adorned table screens and other pieces. With respect to Ming-era cloisonné objects and furnishings, an elaborately decorated item featuring lots of vibrant colors and details is likely to be more valuable at auction than its minimally adorned counterpart (the same goes for Victorian cloisonné objects). Chinese cloisonné vases created during the Ming and Qing eras represent a golden age of Chinese furniture design.
Chinese cloisonné objects were frequently imported to Japan, where the technique wasn’t adopted until the 1800s. Although it was a time of societal and cultural shifts, a bolstered interest in art and design elevated Japanese craft traditions during the Meiji era, and today, Meiji-era cloisonné vases or incense burners in good condition are of great interest to collectors.
Find antique and vintage cloisonné objects on 1stDibs. - What is a serigraph worth?1 Answer1stDibs ExpertOctober 30, 2024What a serigraph is worth depends on its age, maker, style, image quality, availability and overall condition. Pieces produced by well-known artists, such as Andy Warhol, Sister Mary Corita Kent, Pablo Picasso, Peter Max, LeRoy Neiman, Igor Medvedev, Romero Britto and Itzchak Tarkay, may have significant value. For example, Warhol's “Marilyn” serigraphs have sold for between $3 and $5 million at auctions. If you'd like to get a professional opinion on the potential value of any serigraphs in your collection, a certified appraiser or knowledgeable art dealer can help you. On 1stDibs, explore a variety of serigraphs.
- 1stDibs ExpertNovember 20, 2024What Delacroix paintings are worth depends on their history, size, condition and other factors. In 2018, the artist’s oil on canvas animal painting Tigre jouant avec une tortue sold for more than $9.8 million at auction in New York City. Dramatic and romantic content characterized the central themes of his late career. It led Delacroix not to the classical models of Greek and Roman art but to travel in North Africa in search of the exotic. The aforementioned painting and other works were the product of his international adventures. Delacroix has come to be regarded from the outset of his career as the leader of the French Romantic school. If you're in possession of a Delacroix, consider having a certified appraiser or experienced art dealer perform an expert evaluation for you. Find a variety of Eugène Delacroix art on 1stDibs.
- Are Murakami prints worth it?1 Answer1stDibs ExpertNovember 20, 2024Many art collectors believe that Murakami prints are worth it. The Japanese contemporary artist is famous among collectors for the psychedelic flowers and chaotic cartoons that populate his prints and paintings. Artists likely know him as the theorist behind the contemporary art movement he calls “Superflat.” Partially inspired by the Pop art of Andy Warhol, in which celebrity culture and mundane mass-produced items became the focus of bright and colorful works that both celebrated and criticized consumerism, Murakami’s Superflat encompasses painting, sculpture, digital design and more. It presents a subversive look at consumerism but is also an effort to blend fine art and lowbrow culture. However, whether or not it’s worth investing in Murakami prints is totally subjective! At 1stDibs, we believe in buying what you love. Our shopping experience enables discovery and learning, whether you are a seasoned connoisseur or just beginning your collection. Find Takashi Murakami prints and other art on 1stDibs.
- 1stDibs ExpertNovember 20, 2024How much commercial diamonds are worth varies greatly. Commercial diamond refers to natural and lab-created diamond gemstones of I, J or K color quality. Because they are not completely colorless, they are generally worth less than stones with higher color grades. However, the carat weight, cut and clarity will also impact the potential value. The best way to find out how much a particular diamond might sell for is generally to have a certified appraiser or experienced jeweler assess it. On 1stDibs, explore a wide variety of diamond jewelry.
- 1stDibs ExpertNovember 20, 2024Many professionals believe that an expensive briefcase is worth it. High-end briefcases often feature expert craftsmanship and fine materials like genuine leather. As a result, they can hold up well to everyday use while also making a positive impression on colleagues and customers. Briefcases from luxury brands such as Chanel, Hermès, Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Prada are especially popular. Some may even appreciate in value due to ongoing demand. However, whether or not it’s worth investing in luxury briefcases is totally subjective! At 1stDibs, we believe in buying what you love. Our shopping experience enables discovery and learning, whether you are a seasoned connoisseur or just beginning your collection. Find briefcases and other bags on 1stDibs.
- Is Tiffany silver worth it?1 Answer1stDibs ExpertNovember 20, 2024Many collectors believe that Tiffany silver is worth it. In 1868, Tiffany & Co. gained international recognition when it became the first U.S. firm to win an award for excellence in silverware at the Exposition Universelle in Paris. From then on, it belonged to the pantheon of American luxury brands. During the 19th century, its designs for silver tableware, ceremonial silver, flatware and jewelry were highly sought-after indicators of status and taste.
