This is rare watch the legendary house of Longines. We seldom see these early Longines Campaign Style watches. And, never in this fine condition. The dial on this watch was likely produced for them, by the worlds finest Swiss Dial House known as Stern Freres. In the early 1930's due to the Great Depression Patek Philippe, the worlds most famous watch company filed for bankruptcy. Stern purchased the Patek Philippe and still owns the marque today. This watch is still fitted with its original blued steel screws holding in the strap bars attaching the strap. It also appears to have the original crown and the hands are done in the classic Breguet Moon Style, with Breguet numbers as well. If you are a serious collector this is a watch worth considering.
The company was founded in 1832 by Auguste Agassiz, a Swiss watchmaker. He was also the brother of renowned biologist Louis Agassiz. Agassiz started the company with two partners, lawyers Henri Raiguel and Florian Morel. The company's original name was Raiguel Jeune & Cie.
In 1846, Raigeul and Morel retired from the watch industry, leaving Agassiz as sole company head. Several years later, Agassiz brought in his bright, enterprising nephew, trained economist Ernest Francillon, into the business. Francillon was the mastermind behind several impressive innovations that would distinguish the company from its competitors.
In 1880, Francillon trademarked the Longines name and its winged hourglass logo. The winged hourglass is a symbol of precision and timekeeping, and it has become one of the most recognizable logos in the watch industry.
In 1912, Longines became the official timekeeper of the Olympic Games. The company has held this position ever since, and it has been involved in every Olympic Games since then. Longines has also been the official timekeeper of many other major sporting events, including the World Championships in Athletics, the Formula One World Championship, and the America's Cup.

One of the most respected names in American watch making, was the house founded by Edward Howard in Boston Massachusetts in 1858. Howard was an exceptional watchmaker who had worked originally for the Willard Clock Company. Willard was the premier American clock maker and advanced American horology. Howard’s exceptional designs and innovations helped establish America as a watchmaking capital along with the Waltham Watch Company. Howard’s creativity helped establish the principles of industrialization and standardized parts. Howards watches were rugged and very accurate as well. Their case designs were innovative as well. Howard watches were used by scientists and engineers in military and industry because they were rugged and dependable.
In 1903, the Howard Watch Company was acquired by the Keystone Watch Case Company. Keystone continued to produce Howard watches under the Howard brand name until 1935. By that time the great depression had taken its toll on all but the most robust watch companies. During the 1920’s Howard produced the 12-size caliber which was a beautifully finished watch that kept exceptional time. This amazing watch is still in its original box and has never even been serviced (that means it must be serviced if you want to wear it). Everything is original on this watch including the spring bars and strap. The guarantee paper is in the box but it has the wrong number on it. I suspect that is maybe why it was never sold.
