“I Adore You”
By Michael Patterson
Located in Southampton, NY
Oil on canvas painting by the contemporary American artist, Michael Patterson. Signed lower left. Framed in a contemporary dark wood frame 46 by 35.5 inches.
Michael Patterson was born in Hudson, NY in 1953 into a family of painters. Howard Ashman Patterson, his grandfather, was an established American painter. Michael graduated from Suny Purchase with honors in painting, printmaking, and sculpture. He has been painting for thirty-five years or so, doing extensive traveling for inspiration.
Michael focuses on light, reflected light and its color effects, as well as the positive and negative shapes of equal importance, create the graphic energy of my compositions. This sets the rhythm for a piece and influences where the viewer’s eye travels and at what pace.
He includes curved lines with straight, organic shapes juxtaposed geometric shapes woven together, always conscious of the line created by any color masses converging. This line flows throughout, interrupted, yet continuous. The subject of his work most always includes the human figure wherever they may be- city streets, markets, the beach, alone or in groups. People are the most interesting part of creation.
His travels include Vermont, Maine, California, New Mexico, Hawaii, Costa Rica, Ecuador, and Europe. He lived in France for several years. Michael has shown his work in Europe and the U.S., primarily in the Northeast.
Through the years his work has gone in and out of several styles and series of subjects. He is drawn to many of the same things visually that he was drawn to years ago: rainy city...

"The Battle of Ptolemais, 1191"
By Adam Springfield
Located in Southampton, NY
This large oil on canvas painting by Adam Springfield depicts the Battle of Ptolemais which took place in 1191. It is signed lower left and dated 1877. The verso of the painting contains the title of the painting. It has it's original period gold leaf frame and measures 44 x 63.75 inches. The siege of Ptolemais is unique in the history of the Crusades since the Frankish besiegers were themselves besieged, by Saladin's troops. It was not captured until July 1191 when the forces of the Third Crusade, led by King Richard I of England and King Philip II of France, came to King Guy's aid. Acre then served as the de facto capital of the remnant Kingdom of Jerusalem...

"Man with White Chapeau"
By Gen Paul
Located in Southampton, NY
Description: Very expressive oil on heavy paper of a man with a large mustache and wearing a white chapeau by Gen Paul. Signed middle right. New silver leaf frame with dark mat and Museum glass. Overall size framed is 25 by 20 inches. Provenance: Private collector, Argentina.
Eugene Paul, known as Gen Paul, was born in 1895 and raised in the bohemian atmosphere of Montmartre. In his life he came to know a great many of the artists, from the anonymous to the world famous, who established themselves in the neighborhood. A self-taught artist, Gen Paul began expressing himself in drawings and paintings as a child, his earliest works show a remarkable talent. He was apprenticed to a wallpaper hanger. until his life was interrupted by war. He was wounded twice in World War One, the second time he lost one of his legs. During his recovery he turned to painting, which became his passion and his livelihood for almost 60 years. Gen Paul exhibited at the Salon d’Automne and the Salon des Indépendants beginning in 1920. In 1928 Gen Paul exhibited fifty paintings at Galerie Bing with Picasso, Rouault, and Soutine. He participated in collective exhibitions in London and Anvers. In 1937 he painted a large fresco for the Pavillon de Vins de France at l’Exposition Internationale de Paris. A restrospective was held at Galerie Drouant-David in 1952 and his works were shown several times at Galerie Ferrero in Geneva, Switzerland. From the late teens until about 1930 Gen Paul produced a large number of exceptionally strong, vibrant expressionist paintings. His work from this period is particularly interesting when compared to that of Chaim Soutine. While their techniques are clearly similar, Soutine’s paintings...
