An astonishing seventeen perfectly matched natural Bisbee turquoise cabochons were used to create this super rare squash blossom necklace. Today, due to the scarcity of the turquoise the necklace would not be able to be made. Each of the large specimens is the signature look of the lavender pit of the mine, deep Bisbee blue with reddish brown and purple matrix. The quality of the silver work is a great testament to the rarity and beauty of the stone. It is strung with beautiful handmade silver beads and is very wearable.
Bisbee mine turquoise was one of the first to appear for sale on the modern American market, which is at least partly responsible for its fame. The turquoise mine was a secondary operation to the Bisbee copper mine, operated by the Phelps Dodge Corporation. The chains are in four sections of four for a total of sixteen strands. The clasp is a square box closure with tab. Adorning each side of the necklace are fifteen glass round turquoise colored beads set to form a dome flower shape with a clear rhinestone center and six smaller gold tone flower details with a clear rhinestone. One rhinestone is missing on one flower on both sides. On top of the box closure are two sets of gold tone leaves with a turquoise colored bead and two red bead accents. The necklace is 15 inches long.
