'Lost in the Clouds' is a large acrylic and gold leaf on canvas landscape painting of square format created by American artist Jim Seitz in 2023. Featuring a gold, grey, white and blue palette, the painting gives great importance to the white tree. The lower part of the composition is occupied by the golden presence of the ground, accented by a luminous tree that leads our eye to the middle of the painting. Jim Seitz was born in Chicago and currently resides in Louisiana. He grew up in Texas and graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He began showing talent and love for art as a young child, becoming more serious during his college years. During the time he worked for the university, providing medical illustrations for the Science Department,
He has traveled extensively throughout his life, living for several years in the Middle East, before moving to South East Asia. His travel experiences have included everything from cave explorations in the mountains of Iran to working in the jungles of New Guinea and Borneo. His preferred medium during that time was ink and watercolor, as it was easy to transport to and from remote locations.
While influenced by various 19th century landscape artists, Jim has developed a unique technique characterized by tonal, minimalist representation of his subject matter. Through this approach, less becomes more. His appreciation for color and his creative perspective lend to pieces that are traditional, moving to abstract. His utilization of gold leaf applied over heavy textured canvas and then glazed with multiple layers of acrylics provides an effect that is quickly becoming this artist’s signature style.

Sherrie grew up on the east coast in Georgetown, SC and attended Ringling School of Art & Design in Sarasota, FL where she received her degree in graphic design and illustration. After graduating in 1981 she worked in advertising agencies and art departments in Atlanta, GA for 10 years before making Nashville, TN her home. Since 1995 she has focused on painting in oils and has shown in galleries and juried shows throughout the United States.

In the outdoors, exposed to the sun, wind and rain, you can incorporate not only what you see, but also the sounds and the smells of the landscape. All of this lets me convey the sense of wonder I feel at the subject,” says Cople. Undeterred by nature’s extremes, Cople has painted in blizzards in the Wasatch Mountains of Utah; on the precarious cliffs of Monhegan Island, Maine; in howling gales off the California coast; and, of course, in both summer and winter in her beloved Eastern Shore of Maryland and Potomac River...
